MiB Management Information Library of SNMP

The Management Information Database (MIB) is an information repository that contains data about configuration and performance in the management agent. It has an organizational system and a public structure, it contains multiple data objects belonging to different groups.

MIB Data Objects are organized in a tree hierarchy. Each branch in the tree structure has a dedicated name and a digital identifier. The branches of the structure tree actually represent the logical grouping of data objects. Leaf, also called node, sometimes represents various data objects. In the tree structure, use a subtree to indicate the middle branches and the added leaves.

With this tree structure, the MIB browser can access the entire MIB database in a convenient and concise way. The MIB browser is a tool that traverses the entire MIB structure tree and usually displays branches and leaf objects in a graphical form. You can use its digital identifier to find the data object in the MIB. This digital identifier starts from the top (or root) of the structure tree until each leaf node (that is, the data object. This access mode is the same as that of the file system. The main difference between the two is that the path name in the file system can be expressed in absolute or relative mode, while the MIB Data Object can only be expressed in absolute mode, rather than relative mode.

 

Each node has an object identifier (OID) for unique identification. Each node is displayed in two ways: number and character. The object identifier oid is a group of integers separated by periods, that is, the path from the root node to it. A node with a label can have a subtree that contains other nodes with labels. If there is no subtree, It is a leaf node. It contains a value and is called an object. For example, if the oId of the network device name is. 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.5.0, its value is a string of the device name.

 

Network Resources are abstracted as objects for management. However, an object in SNMP is a data variable that represents a certain aspect of managed resources. Objects are standardized as cross-system classes, and object sets are organized as management information libraries (MIB ). As a collection of management site access points at the agent, the management site monitors the network by reading the values of objects in the MIB. The management station can generate actions at the agent, or modify the configuration at the agent by modifying the value.
