With the release of SQL Server, developers can now build applications on Linux, Windows, Docker, or Mac and deploy them locally or in the cloud. It is easier for users to install and use SQL Server. You can install SQL Server 2016 in Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu Linux. Microsoft will also launch software packages for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.

Microsoft also promised to significantly improve the performance of SQL Server in Linux. Microsoft said that the read Speed of OLTP in the memory is increased by 100 times and the write speed is increased by 30 times. SQL Server also has multiple top-level TPC-E performance for transaction processing and top-level TPC-H performance for data warehouses, as well as top-level performance for leading business applications.

Microsoft recently also showed SQL Server that runs more than 1 million R predictions per second. In addition, SQL Server provides incredible efficiency. In terms of Linux tools, Microsoft released some updated versions of SQL Server tools and new SQL Server Extensions for Visual Studio code. Developers can use Azure SQL database and Azure SQL DW. The company also provides SQL Server with a local command line tool on Linux.

In September March this year, Microsoft announced that more than 8000 companies had registered and tried SQL Server for Linux in the first week, including more than 50% Fortune 500 companies.
