Microsoft NetMeeting 3.0

I established a network conferencing system on the Internet earlier, and used Microsoft's "netmeeting" for point-to-point connection, which is very convenient. I can call each other directly using a network address, you only need to know the IP address of the other party and enter it during the call. When using netmeeting in this way, it is required that the called party must be using a computer and its Netmeeting must be in the open state. If the other party does not open netmeeting, contact the other party to enable netmeeting. Otherwise, NetMeeting cannot be started. Using netmeeting in this way is time-consuming. If the other party is not online, you will feel very uncomfortable and troublesome. The advantage of NetMeeting is that you do not need a Directory Server.

The directory service is used to track users who are using netmeeting. It compiles a database with a constantly changing IP address or computer name, for users currently connected to an Internet or enterprise network service. When you run NetMeeting and connect to a directory server, the server locates your IP address. To make a call, you only need to select a name from the NetMeeting directory or from a web site containing a link to another person's computer. The server will transmit the required IP address between your computer to establish a connection, then the call is complete.

When NetMeeting is used by the Directory Server on the Network (whether the directory server in the LAN or the directory server on the Wide Area Network), when the "new call" window is enabled, select "Directory Server" for the call method, and the address must select the network address of the Directory Server that exists and is in use on the network. When NetMeeting is used in this way, as long as it is connected to the directory server, there are many user groups talking on the directory server, you can join any of the chat groups that allow you to join, you do not need to contact us again.

NetMeeting provides the addresses of many directory servers, such: in the "Tools → options" window, in the "call" page, "Microsoft Directory Server" in the "Name of the server that logs on to the Directory Server when NetMeeting is started" List window, however, log on to a foreign server is very slow. It is best to use a local server. Many domestic hot lines have directory servers. You can check the local hotline. It doesn't matter even if it doesn't exist, you can create a directory server by yourself. The specific method is to use ils2.0 (Internet locator server), "Internet location server", and the previous name is ULS, provides the LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) interface for the NetMeeting 3.0 directory service. You can view the ILS directory from netmeeting 3.0 or webpage, or view the User Name List currently using NetMeeting 3.0. You can select to connect to one or more users listed in the list, or select to connect to other users by entering their location information.

The ILS server is free of charge. You can run ils20-x86.exe in your NT/2000/XP/2003system and use the default system options to correctly install it. After that, select the project "service" under the "Administrative Tools" menu. You can see that a service named "Microsoft LDAP Service" is added to the system default service.

After the service is started on the server, you can use the directory service on other terminals. During the first access, the directory server address on the computer is changed to: XXX. xxx. xxx. XXX: 1002. The preceding IP address is the Server IP address (intranet IP address used by LAN users and public IP address used by Wan users), and Netmeeting uses the server port number.

In addition, when we start netmeeting, the "Directory Server not found" error often occurs. In combination with my usual use, the main reasons are analyzed as follows:

(1) A computer is not connected to the network. A call can be made only after it is connected to a LAN or WAN;

(2) The called directory server is not open, and not all directory servers are open around the clock. You can run the ping command to test your status on the Directory Server and check whether the server is open;

(3) the network bandwidth is insufficient. This phenomenon does not occur in the LAN, but often occurs in the Wide Area Network during peak hours or when Internet lines are faulty, the failure to access directory servers outside China mentioned above is mainly due to insufficient network bandwidth;

(4) If you use a firewall, Nat, or proxy server, NetMeeting cannot be used normally on the network behind the firewall, Nat, or proxy server, it dynamically changes the transmission port during the communication process and requires complex analysis of the packet content. Most firewalls or router Products Use Network Address Translation (NAT) these applications cannot be well supported. You can use some special firewalls or routers. netmeeting uses dynamic ports, you can open all ports to run the software in the method to be triggered.
