To solve this problem, follow these steps to enter the wmi mmc snap-in:
1. Start -- run -- enter MMC and click OK.
2. Click "Add/delete snap-in" on the File menu.
3. In the Add/delete management dialog box, click Add.
4. In the list of available independent management units, select WMI control and click OK.

If the problem persists, try the following methods (applicable to XP ):

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and click OK ".
2. In the left pane, locate the following registry subitem and click it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/Microsoft/MMC
3. On the "edit" menu, point to "new" and click "item ".
4. Type usenewui as the new name and press Enter.
5. Click "exit" on the "file" menu ".
