Network Management IP Address

As we all know, in telephone communication, telephone users are identified by phone numbers. Similarly, in order to distinguish different computers in the network, you also need to specify a number for the computer, which is the "ip address ".

  What is an IP address?

The IP address is a 32bit address allocated to each host connected to the Internet.

According to the TCP/IP (Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) Protocol, IP addresses are expressed in binary format. Each IP address is 32 bits in length, and the bits are converted into bytes, 4 bytes. For example, if an IP address in binary format is "00001010000000000000000000000001", it is too hard for people to process such a long address. For convenience, IP addresses are often written in decimal format, and different bytes are separated by the symbol. Therefore, the IP address above can be expressed as "10.0.0.1 ". This representation of IP addresses is called the dot-decimal notation, which is obviously much easier to remember than 1 and 0.

Some people think that a computer can only have one IP address. This is wrong. We can specify that a computer has multiple IP addresses. Therefore, when accessing the internet, do not assume that an IP address is a computer. In addition, through specific technology, multiple servers can share one IP address, these servers look like a host to the user.

How to assign an IP address

The TCP/IP Protocol needs to be set for different networks, and each node generally needs an "IP address", a "subnet mask", and a "Default Gateway ". However, you can use the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to automatically assign an IP address to the client to avoid errors and simplify the TCP/IP protocol settings.

How can I assign an IP address to a lan? IP addresses on the Internet are centrally managed by an organization called "IANA" (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.

Appendix: IP address range used by LAN

Due to unreasonable allocation and limitations of the IPv4 protocol, IP Address resources on the Internet are getting increasingly tight. To solve this problem, IANA retains part of class A, B, and C IP addresses, the reserved IP address space is shown in the appendix.

The reserved IP address segment is not used on the Internet. Therefore, when a router connected to the WAN processes the reserved IP address, it only discards the packet and does not route it to the WAN, in this way, the data generated by the reserved IP address is isolated within the LAN.

If the number of computers in the LAN is less than 254, you can select the IP address range in the C-type IP address segment, for example, from "192.168.1.1" to "192.168.1. 254 ".

  How to Set IP addresses

How can I set an IP address? Take Windows 2000 Server as an example. Right-click "Network neighbors" on the desktop, and click "properties" in the pop-up menu. the "Network and dial-up connections" window appears, right-click "Local Connection" and click "properties" in the pop-up menu. The "Local Connection Properties" window appears (see the figure below). Double-click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) ". In the" Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties "window, enter an IP address in" Use the following IP Address ". Here we enter" 192.168.12.145 "and the subnet mask is" 255.255.255.0 ".
