The network printing server makes the printer and host not in a physical location and can be anywhere on the LAN. In addition, a host can mount multiple printers, which can be distributed across different departments as needed. Currently, Network Printer servers are used in business processing systems in the financial industry, and most of these applications are based on TCP/IP protocol. Network Printing servers are commonly used in Intel, Delink, ZOT and other brands. The following uses Intel network printing server as an example to describe how to install and configure a network printing server in UNIX systems.

Configure the network printing server 1. Configure the IP address

The IP address of the network printing server can be configured in Windows or in UNIX.

(1) In Windows

Generally, network printing servers have random configuration management software installation disks. Run the SETUP. EXE program on the installation disk in Windows, install the management software, and then run the management software. After the software is started, the system will automatically search for the network printing server in the LAN and list the results.

Click the network printing server to be configured, and then click "Configuration" on the main menu. In the displayed drop-down box, select "TCP/IP and SNMP". The Configuration window is displayed.

Select Specify an IP Address to Specify the IP Address and subnet mask. If the application requires remote printing, you can configure the gateway address.

(2) In UNIX

Log on to the UNIX system as the Root user and run the following command to specify the IP address of the network printing server: arp-s <IP_address> <MAC_address>

MAC_address can be obtained from the label on the back of the web printing server or the test page printed by the test button. This address looks like this: 00: A0: C9: 1E: 5D: B8: 04. Ping <IP Address> to test the setting.

Configure the network printing server 2. Adjust Basic parameters

After setting the IP address, you can use the telnet command to log on to the Web Print Server and adjust some basic parameters, such as setting the print port speed to high speed, modifying the IP address again, changing the management password, and configuring the gateway. After adjusting the parameters, the printing server will usually ask whether to save the modification content, and then automatically restart to make the new configuration take effect.

Configure the network printing server 3. Install the configuration

On the random disc of the network printing server, you can find the installation configuration program Proinstall in the UNIX system. Follow these steps to complete the configuration.

(1) log on to the UNIX system as the Root user

Check whether the CD installation directory is available. You can use ls-l/cdrom/npcdrom to view the installation directory. If not, mkdir-p/cdrom/npcdrom can be used.

(2) Place the CD in the CD-ROM. If it cannot be automatically mounted, use the following command

HP-UX mounted-t cdfs-o ro/dev/dsk/c1d1s0/cdrom/npcdrom

SCO mount-f ISO9660-o ro, lower/dev/cd0/cdrom/npcdrom Solaris 2.x mount-F hsfs-r/dev/dsk/c0t6d0s2/cdrom/npcdrom

SunOS 4.1.3 mount-t hsfs-o ro/dev/sr0/cdrom/npcdrom

UnixWare mount-F cdfs-r/dev/cdrom/c0b0t2l0/cdrom

/Npcdrom AIX mount-v cdrfs-o ro/dev/cd0/cdrom/npcdrom

(3) Input commands from the UNIX directory on CD

Sh prosetup. sh prosetupremove proinstalland related programs from the eznpunix.tar file to the/usr/intl directory.

(4) enter the/usr/intl directory, enter the command./proinstall, and install the configuration as prompted. In this process, the system requires you to specify the IP address of the printing server and the name of the printer. Then, you can use the print Command provided by the system to print the file.

The network printing servers of Delink and ZOT do not provide installation programs for UNIX. You can directly use the mkdev rlp command of the UNIX System to configure the programs as prompted.
