In Debian, the Vmware OpenSolaris Installation notes-the Linux Release Technology-Debian information. The following is a detailed description. Author: Tian Hao
I just switched to Debian 4 a few days ago. Because I was not very familiar with it, I had a hard time working for several hours. Besides solving the problem, I still had to solve the problem.
After vmware is installed, the previously installed Virtual System in ubuntu can still be used as usual. Today, we have installed OpenSolaris on vmware again-it is said that there are several amazing tools such as Dtrace. now I have encountered some strange problems.
At first, we selected Solaris 10 (Solaris 9, Solaris 10, and Solaris 10 60-bits in the Solaris options) when selecting the system type for vmware, and then installed everything smoothly, after the installation is complete, enter the graphic interface. Everything looks safe and out of the Internet. In addition, vmware prompts that the system is 64-bit and needs to change the option for the vmware software to run the system, that is, to run it in the 64-bit status. After that, it also runs normally.
To solve the problem of surfing the internet, we first Installed vmware-tools, set the network type to nat, set the virtual network card to vmnet8, and restart opensolaris. We still cannot access the Internet. There are a lot of related information on the Internet, but I have to say that all these are being copied, and all the thousands of editors are used. Most of them are the methods for installing opensolaris in windows. The solution is not impossible, but there are two steps in it that do not understand how to perform the operation, you have to execute sys-unconfig to restore the system to its initial state, and then reconfigure various system options. At this time, the screen is in the form of a terminal, in this process, I chose "back to the previous step" again, and then the nightmare appeared. Since then, all the characters on the screen are garbled and cannot proceed. It is useless to restart the virtual machine, however, since it is a virtual machine, there is nothing to install it again. Delete this OpenSolaris and reinstall the system. Since the last time vmware installed it, it was prompted that the system was 64-bit, so we chose Solaris 10 64-bits this time. The OpenSolaris installation process prompts "Disk is v Alid, installer exiting ", unable to install the system. Next, I tried to allocate a disk before installation, instead of using a dynamic disk. Finally, we installed it in accordance with the previous installation method.
After installation, in the Vmware window, VM-> setting-> Ethernet-> Custom-> vmnet8 is saved, and then VM-> setting-> Ethernet-> NAT, in OpenSolaris, use sys-unconfig again to reconfigure the system. This time it is very simple. Select Simplified Chinese for the language, and then select utf8 to set the network? Select yes. Are you using DHCP to connect to the Internet? Select yes. Select the unix standard setting when the standard setting is set in unix or another setting that you do not remember now. Select none when there are options such as NIS + \ DNS \ none; set the root password to your own password and it will soon end. After restarting, right-click the icon in the networking status in the lower right corner. In the pop-up window, select pcn0. open firefox and enter www.google.cn, soon the goolge page was displayed-networking successful.
It's a dramatic process!
Note: In fact, you can access the Internet in the host system and seldom access the internet in the guest system. However, the problem is always hard to solve. In addition, we have not studied vmware and OpenSolaris for any reason. Otherwise, we will not be able to make such a drastic effort.
