Openswitch operating system becomes the Linux Foundation official project

The nonprofit Linux Foundation is announcing today the Openswitch project as one of the Linux Foundation's official projects to drive the development of Linux and open source software for businesses and professionals.

Last October, the HP Enterprise Development team proudly announced Openswitch NOS (network operating system) to the world, trying to provide a fully functional, Linux-based network operating system for those open source communities. The system is based on the Linux kernel and the latest Gnu/linux technology, and is designed to act as a community-based platform to drive enterprise-level information exchange.

The newly released NOS provides support for the L2/L3 protocol, which is based on a continuous or transient state-driven database, and all internal module communication is done through a System state database, in addition to a common API.



Openswitch nos can be used on HP's Altoline Open network switch, which will also provide customers with professional service support to ensure a low security risk at the time of deployment of the underlying production facility.
