As Exchange version updates are upgraded, the server settings required to verify that the client establishes the Mapihttp connection are configured correctly. Even if all the settings for the server, load balancer, and reverse proxy are correct, you may experience problems connecting to Exchange Server SP1 with Microsoft Outlook SP1 with the use of MAPI over HTTPS. Users in the use of the Outlook client, currently we are familiar with the following several scenarios;

You are using Microsoft Outlook 2010.

You are using Microsoft Outlook Service Pack 1 (SP1) or a later version.

You have connected to Microsoft Exchange Server Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 mailbox.

You are planning to configure Exchange mailbox and Client Access (CAS) servers so that clients connect to all installations that have Exchange Server version SP1 or later, or to Microsoft Exchange Server 2016.

In the following scenario, we find that the Outlook client, in the "Outlook Connection Status" dialog box, "Protocol", connects to the Exchange server in addition to using a connection mechanism other than mapi/http. It also shows a connection using Rpc/http. (mapi/http connections are specified using string HTTP in the Protocol column)

After you troubleshoot this issue because the Mapihttp feature is disabled on the Outlook client, change the value of mapihttpdisabled to 0 (0) or delete the Mapihttpdisabled DWORD value.

1. Exit the Outlook client

2. Depending on the version of Windows OS System, open Registry Editor

    • Windows 10,windows 8.1 and Windows 8: Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type regedit.exe, and then press OK.

    • Windows 7: Click Start, type Regedit.exe in the search box, and then press ENTER.

3. Locate and select the following key in the registry, the default value is 1

Key:hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\exchange

Dword:mapihttpdisabled

Value:1

4. Right-click Mapihttpdisabled, and then click Modify. Change the value data to 0, and then click OK.
