Outlook General error, solution not found for application

Symptom: You receive an error message when you open a link in Outlook: Generic error, HTTP ... The application cannot be found

Reason: IE is not a default browser

Workaround: Open any folder--Tools--Folder Options--File type--url: Hypertext Transfer Protocol--advanced--delete an option outside of open in an operation or move "open" to the first position

A more bizarre fault was encountered yesterday, the HTTP link could be opened, but the HTTPS link could not be opened, prompting: the application could not be found. Oddly enough, colleagues say you can fix the user's Windows profile permissions, but haven't tried.
