Layer is Photoshop the most basic and most commonly used image processing functions, it is difficult to imagine that the first few versions of Photoshop do not have this function bar. Layer can help us adjust the color and tone of the picture, solve the local exposure problem, get more powerful overall picture performance, and highlight the key scenery.

Effect contrast after adjustment

A layer is a non-destructive adjustment that does not affect our original image, which means we can always return to the pristine state of the photo without any adjustments. In this way, everyone can be confident to try the layer and adjust the layers of the various combinations of the screen to bring different effects.

In addition to the basics of layer usage, we'll tell you how to use the selection tool and brush tool to adjust the layer mask to limit the layer's scope to the part of the screen. The operation of this way so that we may have any position on the screen tone and color for a comprehensive adjustment and control, so that the screen fine-tuning and optimization become more relaxed.

We are satisfied with the instant grasp of this example picture, the pigeon on the left wing and the girl walking on the right bring a good visual balance to the picture. But there are still a lot of problems with the color and exposure of this picture. As we filmed the ground side light of Hunan, the church dome bathed in sunlight and the skyline in the background were slightly exposed. We'll tell you how to make selective exposure adjustments to the screen with layers and masks to restore the missing background details. In addition, we will warm the church's color temperature, to the sky to increase the blue-green tone, so that it and the overpass cold color contrast appears more intense.

1, set up the work area

Start Photoshop, and execute the file > Open command to open the sample file.

Start Photoshop, and execute the file > Open command to open the sample file. By default, many panels are open on the right side of Photoshop, most of which are not used in our tutorials. Drag the mouse over the top bar of the panel group to change it to a floating state. Then detach the layers panel from the panels. Close the remaining panels.

2. Add adjustment layer for Photoshop tutorial

Execute layer > New adjustment layer > Levels command

Instead of adjusting the background layer directly, we use an adjustment layer to adjust the color and tone of the background layer. From the top menu bar, follow the layers > new adjustment layer > Levels Command, and click OK. The Level 1 layer appears above the background layer in the Layers panel.

3, adjust the contrast

Adjust contrast

In the adjustment panel, move the Black triangle slider on the lower left of the histogram to the right of about 35, deepening the shadow of the underlying layer. Set the gray slider to 0.60 to deepen the midtones. This would strengthen the details, contrasts and colours of the Church dome, but at the same time it would put the prospect in shadow.

4. Draw Mask

To avoid the brightness of the overpass in the foreground, we need to edit the mask with the brush tool. Select a large soft edge brush from the brush preset selector on the options bar to set the foreground color to black. Click the mask thumbnail on the right of the Level 1 layer to smear the tone on the glass fence to restore the corresponding part.

5, the initial reversal of negative impact effect

Open the Drop-down menu at the top left of the adjustment panel and set it to red. Drag the Black Triangle slider to the right to about 50, and darken the red in the screen to get a bluish-green tone similar to the reverse negative punch. Click on the Eyeball icon before "Level 1" to compare the effect before and after the adjustment.

6, the sky is pressed dark

Click the new Adjustment layer button below the layers panel to select the gradient adjustment layer, and the gradient fill adjustment layer appears at the top of the layers panel, and the Gradient Fill dialog box pops up. Tick the Reverse option in the dialog box. Drag the mouse up to adjust the gradient's position in the screen. Category:
