Photoshop Image Lossless editing tips

Image processing does not require too many layers. With smart objects, most of the complex image processing can be done in 15 layers. Here, we will introduce the image of lossless editing commonly used 10 ways.

Convert a layer to a smart object

Smart objects are the most important kind of image lossless editing method, but it is strange that there are not many users who are accustomed to using the Smart object method at present. Unlike normal layers, smart objects can help you:

1, lossless conversion.

You can scale, rotate, and distort pictures many times, but they don't degrade the quality of the original artwork. For example, if you scale a picture to a smaller size and you want to restore it to its original size, then using the Smart object does not degrade the quality of your image.

2, lossless filters.

When you use a filter for a smart object, a smart filter is generated. Smart filters allow you to edit settings at any time. In addition, in Photoshop CS6, most filters are compatible with smart objects.

3, Sync/link function.

If you copy a smart object, then when you update the original smart object, you copy the Smart object will also change. This feature is useful when you need to copy multiple identical layers and expect them to change synchronously.

To convert a Smart object: Right-click the layer and choose Convert to Smart object.

Use file > Placement commands to place the picture

Most of the time, we use Photoshop to open a picture and then copy and paste it into another document. While there's nothing wrong with this, in fact, there's a way to make this step faster--you can use the place command, which saves you a lot of time by putting pictures in Photoshop and automatically converting them into smart objects.

With file > placement, you can also place files such as raw, AI, and so on into the document and convert it directly into a smart object. For example, you can place a raw file and double-click the smart object at any time to edit it using Adobe Camera Raw. This way, you don't have to convert the raw format image into a JPG format before you do the image processing.

Iii. using layer clipping masks

Many people know about layer clipping masks, but most of them don't know how to use them correctly. In many cases, we use the layer mask to erase the extra images, which completes the pull. However, this approach is not feasible if you are editing a layer that is a smart object. At this point, there is only another way, if a layer mask is not enough, then you can combine the group and then add the mask again. As shown in the following illustration:

Do you want to use more than one layer mask? Combine the layers into groups, and then add masks to the group.

A layer clipping mask is a good way to create a cutout except for creating a layer mask. If you really can't use a layer clipping mask, you can synthesize the layers into groups and then apply masks to the groups separately. In Photoshop CS6, you can even create layer clipping masks for groups.

Four, keep the picture effect simple

There are many ways to adjust the effects of a picture, and most of the effects can be done with several adjustment layers. Layer effects can be superimposed onto another layer effect, and it's good to overlap two layers. However, we should try to create the same picture effect with fewer layers. The premise is that you need to know the meaning of each adjustment layer, but not aimlessly to try. This operation, not only the process is complex, and the image quality is not good.

V. Using smart Filters

One of the benefits of using smart objects is that you can apply smart filters. When you convert a layer to a smart object, you can use the smart filter. Smart filters are the most important lossless editing method in the process of using filters. In addition, smart filters allow users to change the effect of a filter at any time without prejudice.
