The larger the radius, the clearer the details, but the glow will also occur. Professional designers are generally willing to use the USM sharpening more than once to sharpen the radius set more than 1 pixels.

Threshold (Threshold): Determines the contrast of the adjacent pixel boundary can be sharpened, and below this contrast value does not sharpen. The setting of the threshold is the key parameter to avoid problems such as spots and pitting caused by sharpening processing, and the correct setting can make the image perfect for both maintaining a smooth natural hue (for example, the pure blue sky in the background) and emphasizing the contrast of change details. In general prepress processing we recommend a value of 3 to 4, more than 10 is not desirable, they will reduce the sharpness of the processing and make the image look very ugly.

Although the use of default parameters has been able to get a good sharpening effect, but more than a comparison, according to the actual situation to set a reasonable sharpening parameters are always needed, so that can better reproduce the image details, and not to create new trouble: such as spots and pitting.

Generally for portrait, you need the number of filial piety radius wide, valve value high parameters, commonly used is 71/17/17 this set of parameters. For landscape images with a lot of detail, you need a high number of parameters that are low in the radius of the value, such as 200/2/2.

These parameter settings, although often used but not absolute, need to be adjusted to suit your needs. If you overdo it, you'll see a halo on the edge of the object, like a torch to draw a circle of edges around the character. If you continue sharpening, the whole picture will be pixel-wide.

If you need fast, high-volume processing (equivalent to sharpen command) scenery, you can set the number to 80, radius set to 2.2 pixels, low threshold. Sharpening portrait can set the threshold to 10.
