Solution: 1. first execute locale-a to view the character encoding supported by the current system; 2. execute LANG = zh_CN.utf-8 to modify the current environment language constant; www.2cto.com

3. click the icon in the upper left corner of Putty to find Change Settings...

4. find Window ------> Translation --------> Remote character set and change it to the character set you set. Here we take the UTF-8 as an example.

5. check the environment again and you will find garbled characters. (Log on as a common user and view the result through sudo setup)
