Putty: the best tool for Linux Remote Management

For linux Remote Management, I personally prefer putty. Because it is a short and concise tool that can fully meet your needs. SecureCRT has been heard more than once, and has been tried more than once: It was used when it was found to have the tag function; it was found that it was used when the file was directly uploaded and downloaded without using other tools; it was also used again when someone else used it to manage cisco. I don't know if it is the primary reason, that is, I have never liked it. On the contrary, I feel that it is particularly difficult and I still have to pay for the hard-to-use stuff! It wasn't until two months ago when I used multiple virtual machines to experiment. I finally couldn't stand putty's need to open N windows and downloaded SecureCRT again. Unexpectedly, she was so cute! Let me show you how to turn this "difficult to use" SecureCRT into an invincible Dragon Sword.

Let's talk about the SecureCRT version. It uses 6.2.2 (build 263), a Chinese version.

Linux style:

In fact, I think the reason why SecureCRT has been rejected is that its default display style is also known. This is definitely the primary reason. I don't know if I am a beginner or a linux player. I have been practicing black and black screens (especially CRT monitors) for a day. Actually, the interface is very eye-catching. For about a month, I am faced with black screens, practice, and help. Now I think I really miss that time. That is the most primitive accumulation of my technology. OK. You can change the style if you don't like it, said SecureCRT. There are more styles you can support. First look at the default style:

Let's take a look at the modified style:

Key: session options-> terminal-> simulation-> Simulation

Select linux as the terminal, and check the ANSI color.

Font:

After the above changes, it seems to have become a familiar black-white word, but I still feel something wrong. What is wrong? Font! Haha, it's easy to know what's wrong. Check that the putty font is Courier New. Then we changed it to this:

Are you familiar with this? After these two steps, putty's wire can give you a better tool. But I am not satisfied with this. Because I like the top width font Fixedsys, hey:

Key: session options-> terminal-> appearance-> font

Now that we are talking about fonts, let's just explain how to display Chinese correctly. First, make sure that the font environment of your server is UTF-8:

LANG, whether it's a en_US.UTF-8 or a zh_CN.utf-8, just take utf8. Then we should set SecureCRT.

Key: session options-> terminal-> appearance-> character encoding:

Check whether Chinese characters are displayed normally?

Why can't you? Maybe your font environment is slow, and I have also encountered a situation that doesn't take effect immediately after the change. It will take a while or a new window will be opened directly :)

When it comes to tags, you have to think about it. This is my favorite feature !!! If many machines are to be managed, switching back and forth in the window will be exhausting. the tag function of SecureCRT solves this problem. Don't go away. Next you will see more surprises!

1. automatically disconnect

This function automatically closes the current tag when you exit the current terminal. one such benefit is that when you exit the last tag, the entire program will exit. I also want to emphasize that you must use the exit command to exit the terminal normally rather than directly close the terminal. the terminal server will be retained because it is abnormal. If this is a machine that many people log on to, then ...... therefore, good habits start from now on. I secretly told you one thing. In fact, when I quit, I didn't like to lose exit. I had to press four letters and enter a carriage return. I always directly ctrl + d :)

Key: Global Options-> terminal-> disable when disconnected

2. Clone session

Do you know why I like SecureCRT labels? Because it can be cloned! Although putty is also a copy session function, it can only copy one ip address and port, the user name and password have to be entered again, one or two are acceptable, if ..... let's not talk about this. Let's take a look at how SecureCRT is implemented:

1) Right-click

Right-click the session you want to clone:

2) double-click

If you like double-click the tab in the browser, you can also use it in SecureCRT, but you need to set it as follows:

Key: Global Options-> terminal-> tag-> Option-> double-click action

Did you see the disabled tag? Even if you don't use this function, do not select the close tag. You know what I'm talking about :)

3) shortcut keys

If you think it is less efficient to move your hands away from the keyboard area to open a new session, SecureCRT gives you more options. You can customize some shortcuts to implement something.

Key: Session option-> terminal-> simulation-> ing key click "ing key" to prompt you to enter the key. For example, if I press ctrl + shift + n, a prompt will be displayed:

Select "ssh function ":

By default, "ssh_new_session" is selected, and you can confirm it directly. Then, click OK.

Now, when the SecureCRT window is activated, press ctrl + shift + n to directly clone the new session?

Again, the custom shortcut key is so powerful that you can use your imagination and know what I'm talking about.

3. fast switch

If there are too many tags, switching is also a problem. Of course, you can click them directly, but for some keyboard geeks who require efficient and quick access, moving the mouse and wasting time is almost a concept. I would like to say to such people: SecureCRT, you are worth it!

1) alt + 1, 2, 3, 4

There is nothing to say about this. When Multiple labels are opened, the numbers from left to right are 1, 2, 3 .... so you can switch to the label alt + id. just try it.

2) ctrl + tab

Although we know the number, sometimes we need to quickly switch to the previous tag, which may be inconvenient when there are many tags, in this case, SecureCRT provides a "switch to recently used tab", but you need to set it as follows:

Key: Global Options-> terminal-> label-> options-> ctrl + tab

When using this function, you may say that if I use ctrl + tab to switch, I accidentally click it and miss the tag that I want to jump to. What should I do? Hey, it doesn't matter. You can press another shift, so ctrl + shift + tab will jump in reverse order :)

Due to the length of the article, the introduction to SecureCRT has come to an end. Don't hesitate to take actions and practice it. I believe these things will become the cornerstone for efficient linux management. in the following sections, we will discuss File Transfer and several tips for small dessert classes. You deserve it!
