Recover after removing Ubuntu partition under Windows XP
1. A situation occurs when a ubuntu10.04 partition is deleted in Computer Management under Windows, and all Linux partitions become green and become free space. Work with partitioned tables try not to use Disk Management, Disks Genius (Diskman) is very useful , operations on the partitioned table can preview the effect, and the disk partition table will not be updated without saving partition information on exit. Of course you can also use it to backup partitioned table functions.
2. Process ideas before installing Ubuntu in order to make room for space also happened to delete the last disk partition also disappeared. The reason may be that the partition chain has gone awry. But the question now is how to retrieve the Linux partition. The second problem is that because Ubuntu is installed, the system boot is booted by grub, and Grub is in the Linux partition, and restarting this time will cause Windows to not get in. Therefore, the method of processing considers that the MBR is repaired first so that it points to the Windows system so that at least our Windows system is available. The Linux partition should just be missing the partition table, the file should still be in, and the second step will fix the partition table. Grub is then repaired under Linux to boot the Ubuntu system.
3. Required software A.WINPE Boot disk--for repairing the MBR b.testdisk----used to retrieve the Linux partition C.ubuntu boot disk--used to repair grub. Repair MBR with the boot disk into the PE (I use the Chinese cabbage), in the program of the system tools to choose Repair Startup items, repair after you can restart the system into Windows.
4 Retrieving the Linux partition Note This step is to use the appropriate software and determine which partition you want to recover. A lot of back partition tools, Diskgenius (PQ with the next, feeling very poor) is a visual interface, but Ubuntu when using the EXT4 format, using the above software to find the partition is not correct. TestDisk supports EXT4 format. So I use TestDisk to recover my partitions. Download unzip to run Testdisk_win.exe, first use select Create. Press ENTER to select your hard drive, select Proeed, press ENTER to display the partition table format, and select Intel. Select Analyse. Then it will show you the partitioning situation at this time, now your Linux partition is invisible Select Quick Search to search for partitions. Select Deeper search for the partition. Deeper search takes some time, you can now proceed to step 3. The end of the search will indicate that some partitions cannot be restored, select Contiune. The result of displaying deeper search can now see more partitions. And some partitions are intersected (the 1th and 4th columns of the right data represent the start and end bars of the partition). Also note that NTFS has more partitions than before. Note the following comment on line 3rd, * Primary boot partition, P primary partition L logical partition, E extended partition, D will be deleted. The up and down arrows select the partition, and the left and right keys select the action to be made. Now the default all partitions are d. And we were testdisk in quick Search. When selecting a Linux partition and swap area, note the start and end cylinders (but not coincident with each other), the number and size of partitions. Press ENTER to restore the partition, write enter, and y confirm.
5. The next step is to use Ubuntu boot disk into Ubuntu repair grub, please read the next blog post.
