Router setting basics: how to set router devices in a LAN

Vro settings in the LAN are equally important, especially the configuration of vro equipment, all of which are related to the network operation efficiency. Setting up a LAN is a task that almost every network administrator must face.

However, after entering the Organization, many network administrators often directly face the management and maintenance of LAN networks, and miss the network networking work in the early stage. Some network administrators are not familiar with network networking. In fact, understanding the LAN construction process is more conducive to improving the efficiency of network administrators.

Necessity of setting up a network with a vro

When building a LAN, we often need to connect workstations scattered in various locations through network devices. The selected network devices mainly include routers, switches, and hubs. In the past, many organizations used hubs as network devices to connect to each workstation. However, all ports of network devices such as hubs can only share the bandwidth of the LAN egress on average, when the number of workstations connected to the LAN is larger, the less bandwidth resources available for each workstation, the slower the surfing speed, as the prices of Switch Equipment and router equipment keep falling, Medium-and Small-scale LAN networks begin to abandon network devices such as hubs.

In recent years, many organizations have begun to use vswitches as network devices to connect to each workstation, and use a star topology to build a LAN network. On the surface, the appearance of a vswitch is not very different from that of a hub. Its physical connection mode and physical ports are almost the same as those of a hub. In fact, the differences between the two are still very large, this is because the switch device uses data exchange technology, and its network transmission performance is far stronger than that of the hub device. However, in the case of Internet access through a shared LAN, many models of switch devices and even the broadband modem provided by most ISPs do not support the ADSL dial-up Internet access function, therefore, in the working environment of shared dial-up Internet access, switch devices are useless.

To meet the needs of Internet shared access, Broadband Router devices that support the Internet shared dial-up feature have emerged. In terms of working principle, the bandwidth router equipment is similar to Several proxy servers that we usually have access to. Once the bandwidth router equipment is selected, then we do not have to purchase switch devices or hub devices. When using a Broadband Router device to connect to a workstation scattered in all locations, we only need to insert the network cables of each workstation into the ports of the Broadband Router device, then, the shared dial-up Internet function provided by the network device can easily achieve LAN Internet sharing, so as to avoid the trouble of manual dial-up connection at each start-up.

In addition, when the number of workstations in the same LAN is large, a large amount of broadcast traffic may occur in the LAN, which may lead to a reduction in network transmission performance. In order to reduce the broadcast traffic in the network and improve the overall transmission performance of the LAN, we can make appropriate router settings for the Broadband Router equipment and separate multiple workstation into multiple working subnets; the Broadband Router device can isolate broadcast data in the LAN to ensure that the broadcast data in a working subnet is not transmitted to another working subnet, thus effectively ensuring the transmission performance of each Working subnet. Of course, when the lan network scale is very large, the performance of the Broadband Router must meet high standards; otherwise, it is difficult to meet the high-speed internet requests of several workstations at the same time; in this case, we can consider using a vswitch and a router combination to connect to each workstation.

Set vro according to parameters

When selecting a router device for networking, we first need to connect each workstation to the LAN. During physical connection, we can first connect all the power supplies of the relevant hardware equipment, and then insert the common telephone Line cable into the Line port of the broadband modem, use a network cable to connect the Ethernet port of the broadband modem to the WAN port of the Broadband Router device (this port is also called the WAN port ), then, use a non-crossover network cable to connect the lanport (also called the LAN port) of the Broadband Router device to the Uplink port of the switch. Of course, if the local area network in which we are located is not very large and only contains the number of workstations, you can also directly use a non-crossover network cable to connect a normal workstation Nic device to the lanport of a Broadband Router device.

After completing the physical connection task of the router device, we now need to set the router for the common workstation and the basic Internet access parameters of the router. In general, you can open the network connection List window of a common workstation, right-click the "local connection" icon in the window, and execute the "attribute" command from the shortcut menu that appears, go to the local connection property settings window, select the "TCP/IP protocol" option in the settings window, and click the "properties" button to open the property router settings interface of the TCP/IP protocol; select the "automatically obtain IP Address" option on the interface, select the "automatically obtain DNS server address" option, and leave the gateway address blank.

After configuring the Internet parameters router of a common workstation, click "start"/"run", and enter the string command "cmd" in the displayed system run text box ", switches the system to the MS-DOS command line state, where the "ipconfig/all" string command is executed, if we can see an IP address similar to "192.168.1.x" in the result interface, and find that the gateway address of the local system is changed to "192.168.1.1, it indicates that the working status of the Broadband Router device is normal. If a common workstation cannot obtain an IP address similar to "192.168.1.x", we can manually assign a static IP address to the target workstation on the TCP/IP protocol attribute settings page. Under normal circumstances, most models of Broadband Router devices use the default IP Address "192.168.1.1", so we need to set the IP address of common workstations in the LAN to "192.168.1.x ", the value of "x" must be within the range of "2-", change the gateway address to "192.168.1.1", and set the subnet mask address to "255.255.255.0 ", in this way, the common workstations and Broadband Router devices in the LAN can be located in the same working subnet, which makes it easy to log on to the background management interface of the Broadband Router device in the future.
