SCO Installation of Unix

Section one installation Preparation

1. Installation Category: Installation is divided into single boot installation (Unix only) and multiple boot installation (you can choose to start DOS, WIN98, WIN2000, etc.).

2. Installation Overview: The hard drive supports up to four partitions unless you use software to manage multiple launches. DOS and WIN98 have two partitions i.e. primary and expand;win2000 are also divided into primary and expand partitions, and Unix is divided into root partition and swap partition. How to configure, this requires your own choice. Note: Two partitions under UNIX must be installed, with the implication that you can only select two partitions. Recommendation: Do not DOS, Win98, and Win2000 extended partitions.

3. Hard disk space: You can reserve free hard disk space for UNIX, or you can remove other partitions during UNIX installation to install UNIX. But must be on the hard drive 8G, and before the 1024 cylinder.

4. Startup disk Making: You can choose to boot the floppy disk installation, or you can select the CD to boot the installation, as long as your machine supports CD boot. If your machine does not support CD-ROM startup you will need to make a boot floppy.

There are four methods:

1. Run E:\IMAGES\GZCP E:\images\boot\install.img A: At the GZCP: prompt under Windows. Where a: for your floppy disk character, E is your disc character.

2. To run E:\IMAGES\FLOPPCP D/A:/F E:\images\boot\install.img under Windows with the FLOPPCP: prompt

3. Under Unix: When root is registered, insert a 3.5-inch floppy disk on the machine, put the system software CD in the CD drive, and then enter the following command: #mount/dev/cd0/mnt< carriage return > #dd if=/mnt/images/boot/n00 of=/ dev/rfd0135ds18< Carriage return > ok!

Section II Installation process

1. Start machine:

1. Whether you boot from a CD or a floppy disk, the machine appears with the following installation prompts:

SCO UNIX OpenServer (TM) 5.0.X

Boot: * You can enter it here? Query for a bootable address or a return call.

2. Install driver: If your machine has a SCSI card or an array card or network card, you need to enter the address of the driver package here.

such as: Defbootstr link=amird Slha sdsk=amird (0,0,0,0) srom=wd (0,0,0,0)

Where Link=amird Slha indicates the name of the driver that needs to be associated at installation (Btlds,bootime loadable

Driver), Sdsk=amird (0,0,0,0) indicates the location of the system root disk, and several numbers are SCSI adapter numbers, respectively

(adapter number), Bus No., SCSI ID, Logical Unit Number (LUN), srom= (0,0,0,0)

Out is the location of the Eide (IDE) cdrom. In this case, (N,n,n,n) represents (IDE Controller,

Master/slave,lun,bus), with a legal value of 0 and 1. In the example above, the IDE controller:0=primary,

Master/slave:0=master,lun from: 0 (LUN for a eide/ide device is always 0), bus:0 (bus

For a eide/ide device is always 0).

3. To begin the installation:

⑴. System detects the hardware, waits for the following prompt to appear:

⑵. Press to begin installation. Enter.

⑶. Selection of installation media:

Media device to IS Used:ide CD ROM * Press SPACEBAR to select additional media

IDE controller:secondary * by Space Select Primary

Master or Slave:master * Select Slave by Space

Accept Above Choice carriage return

Note: If only media device to is used, and the following two items are not present, you will need to combine the hard drive with the CD-ROM and recommend that you hang Master (master).
