Server Data Storage

Dual-machine data backup requirements:

Modern IT technology holds that the importance of data and operations in a successful system is far greater than that of hardware. In a complete system, data security and assurance are extremely high. Server faults may be caused by various causes, such as equipment faults, operating system faults, and software system faults. Generally, it may take 10 minutes, several hours, or even a few days for technicians to restore the server to a normal state. From the actual experience, it usually takes more than a few hours unless the server is simply restarted (which may remain risky. If the technicians are not on site, the service will be restored for a longer time.

For some important systems, it is hard for users to endure such long service interruptions. Therefore, dual-host hot backup is required to avoid long service interruption and ensure the system's long-term and reliable services.

Determine whether to use dual-host hot backup. The correct method is to analyze the importance of the system and the degree of tolerance for service interruption, so as to determine whether to use dual-host hot backup. That is, how long can your users tolerate service restoration and how much impact will be caused if the service cannot be restored. Especially when it systems are increasingly integrated into the business.

There are multiple application modes for application dual-host hot backup, typical of which include master-slave, mutual backup, and multi-point cluster:

1. The master-slave mode is the most standard and simple hot standby mode, which is commonly referred to as the active/standby mode. It uses two servers, one as the active server, and runs the application system to provide services. The other is used as the slave machine, and the application system is installed completely the same, but in the STANDBY state (standby ). When the Active Server fails, the standby machine is activated through the software test (usually through heartbeat diagnosis) to ensure that the application can be completely restored to normal use in a short time.

2. Dual-host mutual backup: On the basis of Dual-host hot backup, two relatively independent applications run on both machines at the same time, but both are set as backup machines, when a server fails, another server can take over the application of the faulty server in a short time, thus ensuring the application continuity. This method is actually an application of hot standby. It avoids two applications from using four servers for dual-machine hot backup.

3. Multi-Point clusters can be understood as the technical improvement of hot standby. A multi-host server can form a cluster. Based on the actual situation of the application, you can flexibly deploy the application on these servers, and set a takeover policy flexibly. For example, one server can be used as the slave server of all other servers, or multiple slave connections can be set. In this way, you can make full use of the server resources and ensure the high availability of the system. Disk Array backup method-the two servers are connected through the disk array to form a backup system. This method has a large hardware investment and is expensive, but the system is easy to install and relatively stable.

Hardware requirements

Considering the large volume of updated data for retail enterprises, coupled with the huge data volume of daily and recorded transactions, such a large amount of data consumes a lot of system resources for data operations such as queries, high requirements on hardware.

Data storage:

However, with the development of the network and the growth of backup data, distributed storage can no longer meet users' backup needs. As long as an enterprise has one day, the data will grow by one day, and the data growth will never end. As the most important fortune of an enterprise, the data of the enterprise itself is not only the basis for ensuring normal business operation, but also can be used to analyze and provide support for decision-making. Backup is hailed as the last line of defense to ensure data security. However, it should be clearly pointed out that the significance of backup is recovery. In the event of a disaster, it is necessary to ensure that the data backed up previously is available.

In the early stage, when the data storage volume is large and the importance of the data. Consider using the DAS (directly connected to storage) tape drive for storage backup. The DAS can only be accessed through the host connected to it. Each host manages its own file system, but it cannot share data with other hosts. You can only rely on the storage device itself to provide high-reliability data for the host.

When the business grows and IT applications are more extensive, you can consider using network attached storage (NAS) to achieve network file access through centralized management of the file system. Users can share the file system and view the shared data. Professional file servers are combined with storage technology to provide high-reliability data for network access. In addition, TCP/IP is cheaper than FC (optical fiber) of San (storage region Network), and NAS performance/price is better, which is suitable for the central storage of small and medium-sized enterprises.
