This section describes the server roles, databases, and file shares that can be collocated in a Lync server 2013 front-end pool deployment.

1. Server role,
In Lync Server 2013, the A/V conferencing service, mediation services, monitoring, and archiving are collocated on the front-end servers, but additional configuration is required to enable them. If you do not want the mediation server to be collocated with the front end server, you can deploy it as a stand-alone mediation servers on a separate computer.

You can collocated a trusted application server with a front-end server.
The following server roles must be deployed on separate computers:

Controller
Edge Server
Mediation server (if not collocated with front end servers)
Office Web Apps Server
The persistent Chat server role cannot be collocated with the front end server.

2, the database,
Each of the following databases can be collocated to the same database server:

Back-End Database
Monitoring database
Archive database
Persistent Chat Database
Persistent Chat Compliance Database

You can collocated any database or all of these databases in a single instance of SQL Server, or use a different instance of SQL Server for each database, with the following limitations:

Each instance of SQL Server can contain only one back-end database, one monitoring database, one archiving database, one persistent chat database, and one persistent chat compliance database.

Whether these databases use the same SQL Server instance or a separate instance of SQL Server, the database server supports only one front end pool, one archiving deployment, and one monitoring deployment.

You can collocated the file share with the database, as described later in this section.

3, file sharing,
The file share can be a standalone server, or it can be collocated to the same server as any or all of the following:

database servers, including back-end servers for Enterprise Edition front end pools
Archive database
Monitoring database
Persistent Chat Database
Persistent Chat Compliance Database
A single file share can be used for multiple front end pools, standard Edition servers (all at the same site).

4, other components,
A reverse proxy server is not a Lync Server 2013 component, it is just a server that you want to use in your deployment when you wish to support federated users sharing Web content. Therefore, you cannot collocated it with any Lync server 2013 server role. However, you can implement this support for Lync Server 2013 deployment by configuring reverse proxy support on an existing reverse proxy server in your organization that is used to support other applications.

You cannot have any Exchange Unified Messaging (UM) components or SharePoint components collocated with any SharePoint Server role.
