Overview

The SharePoint explorer tool allows you to easily use client applications to view Web part and Web Part Page attributes.

 

Install

Copy the SharePoint explorer executable file to the local server running WSS or SPS.

 

Use spex

All server references are SQL references. Therefore, make sure that you use the correct SQL instance and database name to browse the SPS site.

 

In tools | OPTIONS...

Database refers to the content database of SPs. The default name of WSS content database is sts_servername_1.

The preview parameter is not required currently. This field can be ignored.

The authentication certificate is required. If SQL authentication is used, the user name and password must be provided. If these fields are empty, spex uses NT authentication to access SQL Server.
