Skype for Business Walkthrough VII: Create and publish a new topology

Before installing Skype for Business Server, we had to create and publish the topology, and the topology information was stored in the CMS database.

Here we use Topology Builder in the Administration tool to create a publishing and management topology. The topology requires the support of the SQL database, make sure that the database is in a healthy state, and that the database is in the Compatibility List.

A. Creating a new topology

1. Open the Skype for Business Server Topology Builder and select New topology.

2. Select where to save the configuration file

3. On the Define Primary Domain page, enter the primary SIP domain and click Next.

4. In the Specify other hand supported domains page, click Next directly.

5. On the Define first site page, enter a name and description information, then click Next.

6. Specify the Site Details page, enter the city, province, country and other information.

7. When the new Topology page has been successfully defined, tick the "New Front End wizard opens after this wizard closes" and click Finish.

8. Click Next

9. On the Define front end Pool FQDN page, select Install Enterprise front end pool or standard Edition Server and enter the FQDN of the pool

10. In the Define a computer page in this pool, add a front end server.

11. In the Select Features page, in addition to the instant messaging and status features always on, select the other features you need.

12. On the Select and refer to Server Roles page, the mediation server can be installed on a separate server and selected according to your plan. Here I am the test environment, I choose the collocated.

13. Do not tick the edge pool to be used by the media components that enable this front end pool, and then click Next.

14. On the Define SQL Server storage page, click New, and then enter the FQDN and instance name of the SQL Server.

15. On the Define File storage page, select Define a new file store, and then enter the FQDN and shared folder name of the file server.

16. Here you choose whether to use the Overwrite internal Web service pool FQDN, because the override is for load balancing, and the basic SIP traffic can use DNS load balancing to implement the load, however HTTP/S Web service traffic must be implemented using hardware or software supported by the hand. Some customers choose to use DNS load balancing for SIP communications and software to support load balancing solutions, in order to differentiate the communication path, we need to overwrite the FQDN of the internal Web service. If you have a professional load balancing device, you do not need to overwrite the FQDN of the internal Web service. (Here the test environment I do not do load balancing, so here I do not tick overwrite internal Web service pool FQDN)

B. Configure a simple URL

1. Right-click on the Edit property on Skype for business Server.

2. Click on the central Management Server and enter HTTPS://ADMIN.<DOMAIN> in the admin access URL. Then, to install the location of the front-end server for the central Management Server, select the location of the front-end server.

C. Publishing a topology

Before publishing, make sure that all URLs are correct, that the front-end server and SQL Server are communicating properly (firewall rules), that the shared folders are properly accessible, and that DNS resolves correctly.

1. Right-click Skype for Business Server 2015, and then tap Publish topology.

3. Click Next

4. Select the database, here you can click Advanced, customize the database path, click Next.

5. When the release is complete, make sure you do not have the error message and click Finish.
