Software router coyote linux Installation Guide (illustration)

Coyote linux is a very small and convenient software router and firewall software. It uses a floppy disk as the carrier and can use some older machines as the proxy firewall, this article briefly introduces how to install and configure coyote linux.

First download the latest version of coyote linux to the http://www.vortech.net/, so far, the latest version is 2.4.0. Note: The website provides production versions for several platforms. We generally use Windows Disk Creation Wizard v2.24.0, which means the version is generated in windows.

Download and decompress the file to run the coyote.exe file. Start the process of creating a floppy disk

1. Welcome screen at the beginning. Anyone familiar with installing software on windows knows how to do the next step. See figure 1 ).

2. the next option is to set the IP address of the NIC connected to the LAN by coyote linux, which needs to be set based on the allocation of the internal IP address. For example, if the Intranet ip address is 192.168.3.0/24, set the ip address to 192.168.3.X. Other hosts need to set the gateway to this address. See figure 2)

3. In this step, set the administrator password. It is recommended that the password should not be too simple. It must be 6 or more characters long and contain letters and numbers. To increase security, see Figure 3 ).

4. Next, select the address of the log server. We generally cannot use this function. So leave this blank and you don't need to add anything. Click Next and continue as shown in Figure 4 ).

5. The following is the Internet access settings. The four options above correspond to four Internet access methods. We generally use adsl dial-up Internet access or static IP Access. Settings of the two methods 5 and 6

6. Select whether to set coyote linux as a dhcp server to assign IP addresses to other machines. You can decide whether to use it or not based on your actual situation. See figure 7)

7. Select Your Nic. Based on the NIC type, the system will compile the driver into the floppy disk. The above is the NIC connected to the LAN, and the following is the NIC connected to the Internet. If you cannot find your NIC Driver in the drop-down list, you can click the select button next to it for detailed selection. Since the current Nic is generally a pci interface Nic, you do not need to select the IO address and interrupt number. After you select all, click next to continue. See Figures 8 and 9)

9. Next, put the floppy Disk in the floppy Disk. Click "Creat Disk" and wait for a moment. The coyote linux floppy disk is complete, as shown in figure 11 ).

10. Use this floppy disk to start a machine that is going to act as a router and set it to a soft drive in bios. After the service is started, your client can access the Internet. See Figure 12, 13)

11. coyote linux supports web management. Open ie on an intranet PC and enter http: // 192.168.0.1: 8180 in the address bar. Here, 192.168.0.1 is the Intranet address of coyote linux. You can configure coyote linux on the web. See Figure 14,15, 16)
