If the data in the database is updated in real time, and the report we use to evaluate it is based on such real-time data, then we can take the SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) service. A more superficial scenario is that we need to look at the sales data KPIs for the most recent day, week, or January and get the corresponding table or graph compared to the previous cycle, and the exact real-time sales data goes into the database. The advantage of this is that, for this functional requirement, just the input parameter changes over time, and using SSRS can automate and avoid duplication of effort. The following is a brief summary of the steps of SSRS to build and subscribe to reports.
Installation Configuration SSRs
Typically, when we install MS SQL Server, we also install the important feature in SSRS. Just go to the Start menu to search for the program "Reporting Services configuration Manager (RSCM)", open and basic configuration. The main configuration parameters need to be consistent with the previously installed configuration SQL Server, such as the user name used, authentication method, and so on.
When the configuration is complete, either open the Web Service URL or the report Manager URL should be able to access the corresponding page. If a similar error occurs, the user "XXX" does not have the required permissions. Verify that you have granted sufficient permissions and resolved the Windows user Account Control (UAC) throttling issue. , you need to open the browser as an administrator and then copy the URL entry. You can then add various permissions to the user by accessing the Permissions page on the Report Manger page.
installation Configuration Report Builder
The key use of SSRS is to create reports, but there is no such feature in Report Manager, and other tools are needed. Report Builder is a tool that can help you create an edit report.
If you have the Report Builder link in the Report Manager page mentioned above, you can click it. When the Report Builder is installed, it will open automatically and will download the installation if it is not installed. If there is no Report Builder, we will need to download the Report Builder installation first. During the installation process, if you are filling out a connected report server, you can locate the report Server Web URL copy in the Web Service URL in the rscm mentioned above. When the installation process problems, you can not fill out the report Server, and so on after the installation is started to use and then connect.
Create a report
To create a report, you first have a data source, so you can first set up it in the Reports Manager Web page. Click "New Data Source" and fill in the name and connection string (for example: Data source=.\sqlexpress;initial catalog=dbname;integrated security= true). The test connection is successful and can be saved.
When you open Report Builder, you need to connect without the report server. The second step is the add Dataset (if using embedded data reference). Click Query Designer to select the data you want to use, either table or stored Procedure. Of course, you can also use SQL statements directly. This completes the addition of the DataSet.
When the data is ready, the table can be built. At this time, the operation is in fact similar to the general Word, Excel and other software, you can set up tables, graphs and so on to display, as long as beautiful beauty to use. After adding, you can run the preview by running or F5, and continue to adjust if you are not satisfied. Note here that if you notice the error "Failed to preview report." Under the Details button, it states "the permissions granted to user ' domain\username ' is insufficient for performing thi s operation. (rsaccessdenied) "You need to start report Builder as an administrator. Happy to save the report, given the name. At this point, if you go back to the Report Manager page, you will find that this statement is more, which means that the creation was successful.
Subscribe to reports
We may want to see the latest reports every day, but we don't bother to check them out, so we can subscribe by mail. The steps are as follows:
If you are prompted to say that subscriptions are not supported, this feature is not supported by the SSRS version that we installed. You can find the appropriate Microsoft documentation to check that the installed version is not supported. Https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993.aspx#Reporting
