Starwind emulation of ISCSI for networked storage management

iSCSI Software Target is an optional Windows Services component that provides a centralized, software-and hardware-independent ISCSI disk subsystem in a storage area network (SAN). iSCSI devices access shared storage through a normal TCP/IP network. The official iSCSI Software Target supports Windows Server R2 and Windows Server R2 SP1 (), the iSCSI Client Connection tool for SCSI software Initiato R (ISCSI initiator), Windows Server 2008 is installed by default, if not installed, click here to download, SCSI software Initiator installer adapts to more Windows system versions.

The ISCSI software Target is not installable on some window 2008, and is therefore looking for its replacement-Starwind , Starwind is capable of virtual network hard drives and is managed.

The installation steps are not explained, step by step click.

Now add the hard drive test on the virtual machine:

This test server is a domain controller (also a DNS server) and a dual NIC.

Nic 1:

IP Address: 192.168.2.9

DNS server: 192.168.2.1

Nic 2:

IP Address: 192.168.1.9

Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Add a hard disk that will be the hard disk for networked storage:

Open Disk Manager , convert to Dynamic disk , and create a simple volume and format it, such as:

After formatting, the hard disk is used normally, create a folder in the disk diskimage, later use:

Open Starwind software, go to Admin Center, Add Connection (add Connection Inc)

Enter native ip:192.168.1.9

Add devices (add Device ...) ）

This will divide a hard disk, set its hard disk size, and save it as 1 system files (E:\DISKIMAGE\AEBITERDISK.MG).

Create 3 disks (Arbiterdisk,msdtcdisk,dbdisk) repeatedly, after the creation is complete

Partition of the 3 mirrored hard disk, if the space is insufficient, can be increased at any time. Right-click a hard disk, expansion size (Extend size)

If the original mounted hard drive (logical E-disk) on the hub server is out of space, it can be extended as long as the external hard drive is attached. You can also do other disk arrays

The Management center has divided 3 target mirror disks, where the basic operation is complete, and now log on to the client.

The client is Windows Server SP2, and the component "ISCSI initiator" is installed by default

Click Start--Program--management tool--ISCSI Initiator

The iSCSI Initiator properties are turned on, and you may be prompted to start the iSCSI Service and let the service pass through the firewall.

Click the Discovery option and click Add Portal in the target portal .

Enter the IP address of the server or DNS (such as 192.168.1.9 or 192.168.2.1), default port 3260, if the firewall is open, allow the port to pass.

See 3 targets in the inactive state, click the target option, select each target name, click Sign in :

In the log on to target dialog box, tick automatically restore secondary connection (R) when the computer starts

At this point, you can see the target set to auto Connect in the destination of the tab collection .

Back to the Starwind Admin Center, you can see 1 connected server information under each mirror disk.

Back to the client, open Disk Manager, you can see 3 hard drives!

Bring 3 hard drives online and initialize the disk to create a simple logical volume and format it like a normal basic disk.

After the formatting is complete, there will be 3 available logical disks locally, equivalent to the same as the native hard disk.

At this point, the configuration is complete.

However, ISCSI TCP/IP-based network access is limited by the impact of network transmissions.

You can also use a networked storage disk in a Windows cluster to make disk failover possible.
