Streaming video quality assessment (single-stimulus continuous quality evaluation method)

Source: Internet
Author: User

Stefan Winkler and others in the paper, "Video quality Evaluation for Internet streaming Applications", introduces the methods of video quality evaluation of streaming media, and their research results, recorded here.

Note: The single-stimulus continuous quality evaluation method (SSCQE) is used in this paper, which is of great reference value.

The sequence of participating tests is shown in the following table. Note: These sequences are really long enough.

Table 1 is the streaming media (streaming) format (360x288)

Table 2 is the movie (film) format (844x360)

2 kinds of damage were considered in this experiment:

1. Video Compression damage

2. Network Transmission damage

The model is shown in the following figure.

The following coding methods are considered in this experiment:

Windows Media Video 8
Real Video 8
• ISO MPEG-42 (Microsoft implementation)

The setup of the experimental sequence is shown in the following table. Note: Plr,packet Loss rate, packet loss.

Subjective quality evaluation

The following 2 methods of subjective quality evaluation are considered in this experiment:

1. Single-Stimulus Continuous quality evaluation method (SSCQE, this method is less common, but it is very important)

2. Double Stimulation Damage Scaling method (DSIS)

The quality evaluation software scoring module is shown in the following figure. One is single-stimulus, one is double-stimulated.

The experimental arrangement is shown in the following figure. The experimental volume is still quite large.

Displays its use of the Sony sdm-s51. Its properties are shown in the following table.

After calibration and black level adjustment, the following screen properties are measured:

The lab settings are shown in the following figure:

A total of 20 non-experts (mostly college students) participated in the experiment.

Experimental Data Analysis

The test intervals for several methods are as follows:

SSCQE Streaming (0-100): 8.5

SSCQE Film (0-100): 9.5

DSIS (0-5): 0.33

The relationship between SSCQE and Dsis is shown in the following figure.

The graph can fit a relational expression: SSCQE = 18.9xdsis−0.9

SSCQE experimental results are shown in the following figure. The horizontal axis is the time, and the ordinate is MOS. A rectangle outside the gray line represents a 95% confidence interval for that place.

The following two images show the results of the encoder comparison. The horizontal axis is the SSCQE fraction of an encoder, and the ordinate is the sscqe fraction of another encoder.

Figure 7 is a comparison of streaming media content, with letters corresponding to the letters in the sequence in table 1. The small italic letter represents the result of the 256kbps bitrate. The large bold word represents the result of the 512kbps bitrate.

The comparison of the movie content in Figure 8, the point represents the result of the 512kbps bitrate, the fork represents the result of the 1Mbps bitrate.

The data for this experiment is used for Genista's Stream pqos software. Get a non-reference video quality evaluation method. The relationship between subjective and objective of the method is shown in the figure below.

The performance of this method is as follows.
