The touchpad can simulate various operations of the mouse, even the scroll wheel feature, which enables us to "give directions" when there is no mouse ". However, the annoying thing is that the touchpad is always dumbly pretending to be very sensitive, which causes many misoperations and seriously affects typing. With the latest driver in windows, you can easily disable the touchpad through the control panel, and you can also set it to automatically disable it when detecting the existence of a USB mouse. This is quite convenient. However, in linux, it is not cheap.

The configuration and use of the touchpad are described in detail on the ubuntu English wiki, while the Chinese wiki site is translated in part. See the link at the end of the article. When I have time, I plan to translate all the articles in English and explain some of the operations. Here we will briefly introduce how to control the touchpad.

My notebook was created two years ago. Therefore, after debian was installed, the video card and other special hardware, such as wireless Nic, were available. Other hardware has been directly supported by debian. Of course, this includes touchpad. For some newer hardware versions, you may need to drive the touchpad by yourself. I will not introduce it here, so I will have the opportunity to discuss it again.

Several issues need to be clarified

To facilitate the control of the touchpad, two programs syndaemon and synclient are generally required, and the basic system has been installed.

Enabling SHMConfig is required to enable the program to control the touchpad, which will lead to a loss of security. However, for laptop users, there should be few scenarios for multiple users. You can simply add Option "SHMConfig" and "on" to/etc/X11/xorg. conf. Where to add? You can do it yourself. After adding X, restart X.

You can use syndaemon to control the parameters. For more information, see man. Commonly used is

Syndaemon-d: runs in the background. If the keyboard is hit, the touchpad is disabled until 2 seconds after the last key is clicked.

Syndaemon-t: the touchpad can only move, and the click and scroll wheel actions are disabled.

Syndaemon-I n,-I followed by a Number Parameter, specify the delay time after the last key is disabled, in seconds.

You can also use synclient to control the configuration file ~ /. Qsynaptics.

The parameter information of the touchpad is listed in synclient-l (there are also many parameters, see the man manual );

Synclient TouchpadOff = 1 disabled touchpad, synclient TouchpadOff = 0 enabled touchpad.

I wrote a python script on the Chinese wiki and used synclient to control the touchpad switch through the shortcut key. I haven't tried this method yet. Let's continue it later. In addition, I think we may also be able to check whether the USB mouse exists as we did under Win. If so, the touchpad will be automatically disabled to make it smarter.

If you need the GUI touchpad control interface, you can choose qsynaptics (KDE is ksynaptics). debian users can directly use aptitude install.
