(i) Prerequisites

Supported backup types include the following:

Application-aware Backup: application-aware backups of Microsoft workloads, including SQL Server, Exchange, and SharePoint.

File backup: A backup of files, folders, and volumes for computers running Windows Server and the Windows client operating system.

System backup: A backup system state or a full bare metal backup of a physical computer running Windows Server and the Windows client operating system.

Hyper-V Backup: A backup of a Hyper-V virtual machine running Windows or Linux. You can back up an entire VM, or an application-aware backup that runs Microsoft workloads on a hyper-V VM running Windows.

This deployment is all in one deployment, and SQL uses version 2014.

The following installation procedure describes only the key steps that are particularly important to note.

When you install SQL 2014. On the Feature Selection tab, select Database Engine services. In instance features, select Reporting Services-native.

Don't forget to install SQL management tools as well, which is also a prerequisite for DPM installation.

All services should be set to automatic except for the SQL full-text Filter Daemon Launcher.

Use a separate, dedicated domain user account to run the SQL Server service, SQL Server Agent, SQL Server database engine, and SQL Server Reporting services. The service account needs to be added to the local Administrators group in SQL.

Choose to use the local SQL example, if you are using the default instance, enter the machine name directly.
