The official version of Windows 8 has been released for more than half a year, but the corresponding driver of ThinkPad has been not perfect. In particular, most of the shortcut keys cannot be used, which is too inconvenient. Today we are idle, after reading and exploring, I found that the problem of solving the shortcut key is actually very simple. The following solution is tested on ThinkPad t420 + Windows 8 64bit.

[1. Problem description]

If you go to the official website to find the Win8 driver, you will find that many common software, such as power management software (Powermanager *. exe, Not power management driver), thinkvantage communications utility (Communications *. exe. If the hotkey driver is installedProgramAfter (Sihotkey *. exe), You will find that FN + F3 (Power Management), FN + F8 (Red Riding Hood and touchpad settings) are not available, while FN + F5 (Wireless Settings) to switch the flight mode that comes with Win8, the FN + F6 (camera and audio settings) will display the prompt information shown in.

2. New driver on Win8]

After careful reading, we will find that a new driver is added to the Win8 driver, that is, Lenovo settings dependency (Setting *. exe), This driver is only installed on Windows 8, but after the installation is complete, the above hot keys still have problems. But from the perspective of the name, this is not a separate program, and from the Lenovo Forum's answer (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/What-does-quot-Lenovo-Settings-Dependency-Package-quot-do/td-p/886353), after installing this program, you also need to go to the Windows 8 App Store to download a "Lenovo Settings" Metro app, that is, install the app shown in. After installation, you will find that FN + F6 is ready for use, it includes not only the previous camera and audio settings, but also the power supply and wireless hotspot settings.

Iii. Power Management Problems]

Although Lenovo wants to use the new metro interface to manage common settings on Windows 8, the options that can be set in Lenovo settings are missing after all, especially for Power Management settings. Under Lenovo settings, you can only view the connection status of the power supply and the health status of the battery (a good one is displayed, but what is the difference with nothing ), in addition, the USB charging settings of the yellow port and whether to enable the battery delay, so we also need to install power management software like win7.

If you download the win7 Power Manager (v6.4x) from the official website, an error will be prompted, but it is interesting that you can directly install it If you download v6.30. After installation, you can see the Power Manager icon in the system's power options like win7, you can also enable the Power Manager to view the battery status and set the power configuration as before.

Of course, we recommend that you install Lenovo's thinkvantage system update software. After the installation, you will be prompted to update it to the Power Manager v7.34. After the update is complete, as shown in, but I don't know why this driver is not available on the official website. (The Late makeup on January 1, May 25 does not seem to be updated to this version through system update)

[4. Differences between Windows 7 and Win8 hotkeys]

So far, although the power manager has been installed, FN + F3 is still unavailable. In fact, this is because the hotkey driver in Win8 is different from that in win7. If you have previously customized the win7 hotkey driver, you may know that the hotkeys are defined in the Registry's HKLM \ SOFTWARE \ IBM \ tphotkey \ class or HKLM \ SOFTWARE \ Lenovo \ tphotkey \ class, as shown in.

However, on Win8, the location defined by the hotkey in the Registry has changed, and its location is under HKLM \ SOFTWARE \ Lenovo \ shortcutkey \ applaunch, and, because both desktop and Metro applications are supported, an apptype attribute is added. When apptype is set to 2, The hotkey corresponds to the Metro application, create an item named metro and add a string named Uri and packagename. For example, after installing the Lenovo settings dependency, the following key values will appear.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Lenovo \ shortcutkey \ applaunch \ 6]"Apptype" = DWORD: 00000002[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Lenovo \ shortcutkey \ applaunch \ 6 \ Metro]"Uri" = "Lenovo-Metro-settings: Param? "" Packagename "=" lenovocorporation. lenovosettings_4642shxvsv8s2"

If it corresponds to a desktop application, apptype = 1 and the desktop item name should be created, and the key in the desktop item should correspond to the key in tphotkey, for example, if you want FN + F3 to enable power management, you should create a registry item similar to the following (the specific directory may be different ).

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Lenovo \ shortcutkey \ applaunch \ 3]"Apptype" = DWORD: 00000001[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Lenovo \ shortcutkey \ applaunch \ 3 \ Desktop]"File" = "C: \ progra ~ 2 \ ThinkPad \ utilit ~ 1 \ pwmosdv.exe "" lockedmode "= DWORD: 00000001" Parameters "= ""

In this way, you can use FN + F3 like win7 to open the dialog box for selecting the power scheme.

If you need FN + F8 to set up the red hat and touchpad, you also need to install the ultranav auxiliary program (ultranavutility *. EXE), this program is not available in the Win8 driver, but after testing, applicable to the win7 version is also applicable to Win8, so you only need to download the corresponding win7 version. After installation, it corresponds to the tphotkey, for example, the following registry key (the specific directory may be different ).

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Lenovo \ shortcutkey \ applaunch \ 8]"Apptype" = DWORD: 00000001[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Lenovo \ shortcutkey \ applaunch \ 8 \ Desktop]"File" = "C: \ progra ~ 1 \ ThinkPad \ ultran ~ 1 \ unavosd.exe "" Parameters "="/OSD"

[Postscript]

Similarly, you can also customize FN + F5, thinkvantage (serial number: ex_17) and other buttons, because my notebook does not have Bluetooth or 3G, therefore, the FN + F5 mode is just the same for me. I have not installed access connections any more. If you are interested, try again.
