Tutorial on using the Photoshop CS6 ruler tool

1. Open an image file. As shown in the following illustration:

2. Click the Ruler tool in the Toolbox

Select the Image menu, move the cursor over the analysis, click Ruler Tools on the Pop-up submenu, and a checkmark (√) appears to the left of the ruler Tools command, indicating that the ruler tool has been selected.

3. In the image file need to measure the beginning of the length of the left mouse button, do not release, and then drag the mouse to the end of the position, and then release the left mouse button, you can complete the measurement distance. As shown in the following illustration:

After the measurement is complete, you can see the results of the measurements in the Tools Options bar and the info panel. Please read the Photoshop CS6 to identify the measurement results.

Tips:

You can hide the measurement results of the ruler tool by clicking the other tool buttons in the toolbox.

After you have used the ruler tool to complete the measurement of distance or angle, you can view the results of the measurement in the Tools Options bar and the info panel.

The Tools Options bar displays the following information:

You can open the Info panel by selecting the Window menu, clicking the Info command, or pressing the F8 key. As shown in the following illustration:

A: Displays the measured angle value. If it is a line of measurement, the angle of inclination is displayed, and if two lines are measured, the angle of the measurement line is displayed.

L1: Displays the length of the 1th line of measurement.

L2: Displays the length of the 2nd line of measurement.

X and Y: Displays the coordinate values of the current mouse when measuring.

W and H: Displays the horizontal and vertical distances between the measured start and end positions. Used when testing for horizontal or vertical distances.

Tips

First hold down the SHIFT key and then drag the mouse to create a horizontal, vertical, or 45-degree line of measurement.

After you create the measurement line, place the cursor over the end of the measurement line, press and move the mouse, move the position of the endpoint, and place the cursor over the measurement line, where you can move the line of measurement.
