The Ubuntu 12.04 transformation guide has been upgrading 12.04 for some time. As an old user who has been using Ubuntu since 12.04, I think, as an LTS version, is undoubtedly not in line with my expectations. Speaking of this doesn't mean that I don't recommend upgrading 12.04, But I think 12.04 is not as good as the previous versions. So I started to transform my Ubuntu. After a period of adjustment and use, I am basically satisfied with the current system, so I plan to write an article to introduce my transformation. Www.2cto.com 1. Escape From Unity and embrace Gnome-shell. I have been trying to use Unity with an open attitude since Ubuntu 11.04. Although I hate its inexplicable global menus and messy Dash interfaces, and I hate not to support changing themes, it is good that Launcher has been relatively easy to use. After adjustment with MyUnity, it can still be used. However, Unity of version 12.04 is not improved, but is more difficult to use. For example, Launcher does not support automatic hiding. Two options: Do not hide. The minimum and maximum close buttons of the global menu are placed on the front of the Launcher, which is quite awkward to press. Hide it. To enable the Launcher, you must press the Super key. In addition, new features such as HUD are still immature and take up the alt key. So I decided to escape from Unity. My choice is Gnome-shell. Install Gnome-shell: add PPA sudo add-apt-repository ppa: gnome3-team/gnome3sudo add-apt-repository ppa: ricotz/testing first
Run sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install gnome-shell # install Gnome-shell desktop sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions # install extensionssudo apt-get install gnome- tweak-tool # Log out after the configuration tool is installed, select Gnome when logging on. Other optional desktop environments: Gnome Classic (Gnome 2. x Desktop) sudo apt-get install gnome-panel or sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallbackMATE (like Gnome 2. x Desktop) sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://packages.mate-desktop.org/repo/ubuntu precise main" sudo apt-get install mate-archive-keyringsudo apt-get update www.2cto.com sudo apt-get install mate-coresudo apt-get install mate -desktop-environmentLXDEsudo apt-get install lx DeXFCE sudo apt-get install xfce4 (you do not need to install lubuntu-desktop or xubuntu-desktop, because there are many other components included) 2. Beautify + optimize the desktop. The first step is to change to the beautiful Faenza icon: sudo add-apt-repository ppa: tiheum/equinoxsudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install faenza-icon-theme faience-icon-theme next install Gnome-shell theme. I use London Smoke. After downloading it, decompress the package to/home/anels /. themes. To use this topic, you must first install a user Themes extension at https://extensions.gnome.org. The installation is quite simple. Just click the mouse. Go to Advanced Settings and select the newly installed icon and Gnome-shell themes. For example. If London Smoke is not displayed in Shell theme, check whether the path is correct (the gnome-shell folder should be included in London Smoke ). After everything is set, I feel a lot more comfortable. Next, install the extension, and choose export Accessibility, Alternative Status Menu, Advanced Settings in UserMenu, Places Status Indicator, and Applications Menu. Iii. Install common system software Ubuntu is preinstalled with a wide range of software. However, you need to install some commonly used software based on your preferences and other reasons. The following is my own: first, Ubuntu Tweak. After installation, it became very easy to adjust Ubuntu. Sudo add-apt-repository ppa: tualatrix/ppasudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak next install the Flash plug-in (required for video websites) sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer install the Nautilus extension (right-click and use terminal to open it) sudo apt-get install nautilus-open-terminal downloads the deb package each time, it is too slow to install in the Software Center, and gdebi is enough. Sudo apt-get install gdebiVim. I don't need to talk about this. Sudo apt-get install vim 4. Chinese: Every time I install Ubuntu, I like to install it into an English system. If I select Chinese during installation, all the things in the Home folder are named in Chinese, for example, "Download" and "document". If you download an object, you may not be able to open it by double-clicking it ...... Because the path contains Chinese characters. Therefore, I like the solution of English system + Chinese input method. First, update the Language Pack. Select System Settings-> Language Support. A prompt is displayed asking if you do not need to update the Language Pack. Select Yes. After www.2cto.com is updated, if you want to change it to a Chinese interface, you can Install/Remove ages... Select "Chinese (simplified)" to install. After installation, drag "Chinese (simplified)" to the first one. After the Chinese language is installed, the default input method is ibus. If you want to continue using this input method, you can install Google Pinyin and Sun pinyin sudo apt-get install ibus-googlepinyinsudo apt-get install ibus-sunpinyin, but I do not like ibus very much. If Unity is abandoned, ibus has no advantage. So I installed fcitx sudo add-apt-repository ppa: fcitx-team/nightlysudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install fcitxsudo apt-get install fcitx-googlepinyinsudo apt-get install fcitx-sunpinyinsudo apt-get install fcitx-module-cloudpinyin after installation is complete, in Language Support, select fcitx for Keyboard input method system. Then press Ctrl + Space to open the fcitx input method. Right-click the input method indicator and select Configure to Configure the cloud Input Method on the Addon page. It seems that Sogou has the fastest response. If you want to change the skin, you can search for the fcitx skin on the Internet. Some of them have deb packages and can be directly installed. Some of them are compressed packages, which need to be decompressed and put in/usr/share/fcitx/skin. If the skin is translucent, You need to enable the delay in fcitx-> Global Config, otherwise there will be ugly black blocks. Finally, you need to set the boot start. Add a fcitx-daemon in Startup Applications Preferences, enter fcitx-d in the Command column, and save and exit. 5. Other things are coming soon. First, Gwibber has supported Sina and Sohu Weibo since 12.04. However, you need to install the extension. Www.2cto.com sudo apt-get install gwibber-service-sinasudo apt-get install gwibber-service-sohu
After installation, you can add Weibo accounts of Sina and Sohu. (Welcome to my Sina Weibo @ anels) Synchronization tool. The first choice is Dropbox. Although Google Drive, MS SkyDrive, Amazon Cloud Drive have launched their own Desktop client, but without exception do not support Linux systems, think about these servers may use Linux, desktop ...... Well, Dropbox is quite interesting. Install Dropbox: sudo apt-get install nautilus-dropbox # In addition, yunnuo Yunio is recommended for dropbox, which is similar to Dropbox. The free account has 5 GB + (you can get space rewards in various ways ), it also supports Win/Linux/MacOS/Android/iOS, which is very powerful. To install Yunio, download the deb package and use gdebi to install it. Deepin Scrot tool, Deepin Software Center, and pythonWebQQ. For specific installation methods, Google.
