I want to learn about linux, so I want to install ubuntu Desktop Edition, go to the ubuntu official website to download the latest ubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386.iso image file. My current operating system is win7. I found it troublesome to install hard disks on the internet. In addition, I had a 4 gb usb flash drive, and I had always liked to install the system with a USB flash drive, so I searched for the method for installing ubuntu with a USB flash drive. The tutorials on the Internet are clearly written, but the installation process has brought me a lot of trouble. now let's write about the installation process, the troubles and solutions.

Prerequisites

The computer can be started from a USB flash drive.

Prepare a partition of no less than 5 GB for Ubuntu installation on the computer: I allocated 35 GB for Ubuntu. The partitioning process is also troublesome. at last, we will mention that if your computer has already been partitioned, you don't have to look at this part.

One USB flash drive: The size must be at least 2 GB. (I am 4 GB)

Ubuntu image File: My image is a ubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386.iso. Official website: http://www.ubuntu.com/download

UltraISO: used to create a USB flash drive. Official version of UltraISO: http://www.ezbsystems.com/ultraiso/download.htm

General steps Use the downloaded Ubuntu image file and UltraISO software to create a USB flash drive.

The general production process is (do not forget to plug in the USB flash drive before making it ):

Open UltraISO-> open the Ubuntu CD image-> Select "boot CD"-> select sub-menu "write hard disk image"-> Select "hard disk drive" as the U disk to be written (note do not select the wrong one) -> Select "write mode" for "USB-HDD" (others are recommended USB-ZIP +, I don't understand, choose casually)-> Click "write" (Will format the existing data on the U disk, be careful when backing up data in advance ).

The production process is simple, but the following problems may occur:

When UltraISO selects "Hard Drive" (that is, the USB flash drive to be written), the USB flash drive cannot be found. if you can ensure that your USB flash drive is connected, then you can try to run the UltraISO software again as an administrator.

Although the software prompts that the boot disk has been successfully created, the system cannot be started from the USB flash disk at the time of installation. after the prompt Starting boot from USB disk..., the cursor keeps flashing, but cannot be started. The reason may be that, if the UltraISO software you use is a Chinese version, it may have been deleted (less than 2 MB in size), and the boot disk of the U disk is not successful, so I later switched to the official version (size close to 4 MB), and the problem was solved.

Install Ubuntu using the prepared USB disk boot disk

Note: First plug the USB flash drive into the computer and unplug it after the installation is complete.

Set the BIOS boot option to start from USB. When I start my notebook, select F2 to go to BIOS settings. different people have different computers and different BIOS settings. please explore for yourself.

Step by step as prompted. Official installation tutorial: Workshop "somethingelse ". The page for displaying all partitions will appear later. determine which partition is based on the reserved partition sequence and size for Ubuntu. The size of my partition is 2 GB for swap, and all others are allocated to the root directory /.

Partition process: first, delete the previously reserved partition to make it unallocated space (select the partition and click the minus sign "-". This process will cause data loss in the selected partition, please note that advance backup is required ). Select the unallocated space that has just been generated, click the plus sign "+" to adjust the size to 2048 MB, select the file system as ext4, and select the mount point as swap, after confirmation, it is allocated as a swap partition. Finally, click the plus sign "+" to take all the remaining space as the root directory/Mount point, and click OK. The above process requires a period of time to adjust the partition. Note that this process should be very careful and confusing. please refer to more detailed documents.

After partitioning, click Install Now to Install the following.

Adjust partitions under Win7

This section describes how to allocate a 35 GB space from the hard disk in Win7 to prepare for Ubuntu installation. It is recommended that the Ubuntu partition be created after other partitions in the system, so I decided to squeeze the partition from the last hard disk. However, since the last hard disk has only 50 GB of capacity and the remaining capacity is less than 20 GB, it can only be squeezed out from other hard disks. The partition software I use is AcronisDisk ctor.

This software seems to be easy to use and can be used to adjust all partitions in one step. However, after each commit operation, no partitions are made after the system is restarted. You need to split the disk from one partition to unallocated space, move it to the last hard disk at, and then create partitions for the unallocated space.

Please search for the detailed tutorial of this software.
