As you know, Ubuntu itself comes with a client that can send and receive emails-Thunderbird. Of course, it also supports Mail services that support the IMAP protocol, such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Microsoft Outlook.
Thunderbird is a powerful email client that can achieve all the functions required by the email client. However, if you want to select a lightweight client that can run in GNOME, Geary is a good choice.
Geary is a free program that allows you to read emails quickly and conveniently. All its dialogs are displayed on a simple panel, so that you do not have to click to switch messages.
Geary also supports the IMAP protocol, so you can use online email services such as Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft.
For Ubuntu 13.10 users, Geary can be obtained from the Ubuntu Software Center. Run the following command to install Geary.
sudo apt-get install geary
In earlier versions of Ubuntu, press Ctrl-Alt-T on the keyboard to open the terminal. Run the following command to add the PPA source.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yorba/ppa
Next, run the following command to upgrade the system and install Geary.
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install geary
When starting Geary for the first time, you need to set up your Gmail, Yahoo, or Microsoft email account.
The setting is very simple. If you enter your account information, Geary will automatically configure your account.
To uninstall Geary, first remove its PPA source from the system. The command to be run is as follows.
sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:yorba/ppa
Run the following command to uninstall Geary.
sudo apt-get remove geary
