In fact, it is very convenient to use Virtualbox to install WinXP in Ubuntu 8.04, but there are several points to note:

1. After Virtualbox is installed

Add a user to the vboxusers user group. vboxusers is the group automatically created when vbox is installed, and sudo adduser ithurricane vboxusers (ithurricane is my user name and must be changed to your user name)

2. Initially, the USB device cannot be used due to permission issues, but now many mouse and keyboard are USB. If it cannot be identified, WinXP cannot be installed,

Create a new usb fs group: sudo groupadd USB FS

Add the current user to this user group: sudo adduser ithurricane usbfs

Open the/etc/group file gedit/etc/group

Search for usbfs and write down the ID. For example, in my case, usbfs: x: 1006: ithurricane.

Above 1006 is the ID.

Open the/etc/fstab file: sudo gedit/etc/fstab

Add one line to the end: none/proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid = 1006, devmode = 664 0 0

Note that in devgid = 1006, change 1006 to the usb fs group ID you just found in the group. Save the file.

Next we can install XP and download the deep simplification system. This is the most suitable system to be installed on a virtual machine. We strongly recommend that you! Open virtualBox and click Create, and set step by step. I have 4 GB memory, and I allocate 1 GB memory to the client. After the image is created, click Settings and select the downloaded XP image from the optical drive settings. Double-click the new client to start installation. The installation process is the same as that of XP.

After XP is installed, start the client to enter the XP system. Click device-install the Virtual Private Computer Auxiliary toolkit. So far, the driver installation is complete. Close the client. Then select "Settings"-"sound"-"ALSA" in Vbox. Virtualbox1.4 has its own shared file function. In settings, select share and add the name of the fixed shared file.

Start the client, open my computer, and select "tool"-" ing network drive"

Enter \ vboxsvr \ ithurricane in the folder (ithurricane is the name of the shared folder I just created)

After clicking finish, we can use the shared folder in my computer as if using a local disk.

In this way, we are playing Ubuntu for Linux and Windows! Note that sometimes the keyboard in the VM cannot be used. In the VirtualBox console, choose "file"> "preference settings"> "input ", cancel "automatically capture the keyboard" to restore the keyboard to normal.

The mouse switch requires the installation of scim-bridge-client-qt scim-bridge-client-qt4 after logout.
