Many of my friends who are studying and writing documents are confused about the differences between the user manual and the operation manual. Next I will explain in detail their differences and the compiling specifications of corresponding documents.

In general, the user manual describes the information involved in the use of software, and the Manual describes the operation and use of computers or hardware devices. The distinction between the two is obvious. The following is a detailed explanation.

User Manual

Describes how users who manually operate the software should install and use a computer software configuration item (csci), a group of csci, a software system or subsystem. It also includes some special aspects of software operations, such as instructions on specific positions or tasks.
This document is developed for software operated by users and has a user interface that requires online user input or interpretation output. If the software is embedded in a hardware-1 software system, a separate User Manual may not be required because the System user manual or operating procedures are already in place.

Operation Manual

The computer operation manual provides the information required to operate the specified computer and its external devices. This manual focuses on computers rather than specific software running on them. This document is intended for some newly developed computers, dedicated computers, other computers that are not available in commercial operation manuals or other operation manuals.
