Host-only Network

After the installation, the Windows host has a "virtualbox host-only network" Local Nic. You can delete the host-only network Nic from the file-preferences-network in the virtualbox menu. Because some modes do not use this Nic.

1) Not attached: it is equivalent to a situation where the virtual machine is not plugged in with a network cable and cannot connect to the host machine at this time.

2) NAT: Network Address Translation (NAT). a vm accesses the Intranet or Internet from the network connection of the host through NAT, but the Intranet or Internet hosts cannot access the virtual machine. Nat mode is sufficient for accessing the Internet, downloading files, and sending and receiving emails. However, there are many restrictions, such as incomplete support for ICMP protocol (traceroute command), failure to receive UDP broadcast packets, and failure to support transport agreements (such as PPTP) other than TCP and UDP ). The Virtual Machine IP address can be set to a static IP address or DHCP address. Here, the virtual machine uses DHCP to automatically obtain the IP address. In this mode, the Linux system is installed, you can set an end port forwarding for SSH management. Then SSH 192.168.0.113 can be connected to the Linux virtual machine.

3) bridged adapter: In the bridge mode, the virtual machine bridge is connected to a NIC of the host machine and directly exchanges data packets with the external machine, as if not passing through the host machine. The virtual machine can set an independent IP address. All network functions are the same as the real machines in the network. This mode can run various servers in the virtual machine. You need to modify the Virtual Machine IP address and gateway in the Virtual Machine and the same network segment as the host machine.
