Background:
Previously, I used vmware7.1.1 to install ubuntu10.10 on a virtual hard disk in windows. It is used for software development. Who knows that the vmdk virtual hard disk is getting bigger and bigger when code is compiled all day long!
Even if you delete files in the Ubuntu System of the virtual machine, the vmdk virtual hard disk files in windows are still as large as they are all over 60 GB,
The gb ntfs partition is not enough soon. In addition, we also found that virtual hard disk files are prone to fragments, which wastes a lot of space. Therefore, we are determined to install Ubuntu on the physical partition.

Imagine:
In Windows, there is no tool to divide the hard disk partition format into ext4 File System Format (pq8 can only be in the format of ext3). Therefore, we assume that Ubuntu and windows are installed directly on the computer.
Then go back to Windows and use VMware to create a new virtual machine and reinstall Ubuntu on the ext4 physical partition on the hard disk.

Run:
Restart your computer, insert the ubuntu11.04 disc, and install the system. Note that you need to manually create each partition. I have reserved a GB unpartitioned space on the hard disk.
My partitions are as follows:
Mount directory format size
/Ext4 10g
Swap 2G
/Home ext4 113G

After the partition is complete, go to the installation page. The system will be able to complete the installation in about 30 minutes. Restart your computer, select start Windows from grub, and open VMware to create a new virtual machine. Note the following:

How can VMware start Ubuntu 11.04 installed on a physical hard disk ?! The grub on the startup interface is exactly the same as that on the computer (Windows startup options are all there and I really don't know how VMWare does it ).
It looks good to use. Except for a small problem: when using VI under VMWare, press "up", "down", "Left", "right", "home", "pgup ", "pgdn" and "end" are uppercase letters!
Sudo apt-Get install Vim to install a Vim problem.

Step 4: even if the system crashes on that day, it doesn't matter because/home is mounted to an independent partition during installation, it is not the same as the system partition or swap partition.
In the physical partition, the system cannot be started. There is still a way to obtain my data!

1. it is found that this installation method will lead to Hard Disk Read and Write deadlocks, and occasionally the system will be stuck to death, especially when reading and writing hard disks in the VM, the applications on the host operating system will also read and write the hard disk, this situation is more likely to happen! However, in general, it is better to install it on a vmdisk virtual hard disk. No matter how you add or delete folders, it will not endlessly occupy hard disk space and will not be released, you don't have to worry about disk fragmentation!

2. The running speed and the installation method on the vmdisk virtual hard disk are not improved, and the performance is almost the same! This made me a little disappointed.
