Html time refers to the Timed extension of HTML Multimedia interaction (Timed Interactive Multimedia Extensions for HTML ). It adds the timing and synchronization support for SMIL 1.0 to HTML.
Html time is submitted to W3C by the following organizations: Microsoft, Macromedia, Compaq/Digital, and Digital Renaissance.

Html smil (Correction to html time) was mentioned in an earlier SMIL 2.0 working draft.
After SMIL 2.0 became the W3C recommendation standard, html smil was removed from SMIL 2.0 and became an independent working draft named xhtm smil. XHTML SMIL
Xhtml smil provides support for SMIL 2.0 functionality in XHTML, such as actions, media, timing, synchronization, and direct conversion.
Currently, xhtml smil is a record submitted to W3C with the intention that xhtml smil can be used as the basis for integrating SMIL into XHTML.

August 2001 SMIL 2.0 became W3C standard. 07. August 2001 html smil becomes an independent working draft and is renamed xhtml smil. 31. January 2002 xhtml smil was resubmitted as a W3C record.
