What is the difference between a vswitch and a vro? Can a vro be used as a vswitch ?, Vro
I often see some network friends asking about the difference between a vswitch and a vro. In fact, if you have used both a vswitch and a vro, you should know something about it. For everyone, the biggest difference between a vswitch and a vro is that a dial-up Internet access can be achieved within the vro, and then the Internet can be accessed through sharing with multiple computers at the same time, but the vswitch does not have the dial-up function, however, vswitches are used to distribute network signals so that more computers can connect to the Internet.

We may not know much about vswitches here. We know that a vro has five ports, one of which is a WAN port and is connected to a wide-band cable, the other four ports are used to connect to the Internet computer (how far is the wireless router transmission distance), that is, a router can support up to four computers to share the Internet, what should I do if I want more computers to share this wide-line Internet connection? In this case, we need to use vswitches. Different from vrouters, vswitches generally have at least eight ports, we only need to connect one of the first four ports in the router to connect the network cable to any port of the switch, and other ports of the switch can connect to many computers for Internet access, in this way, a network cable can be connected by a vro in combination with a vswitch to achieve shared Internet access for more than four people. The role of the vswitch here is to increase the network cable port, which can be understood as traffic distribution, change one port to N.

Differences between vswitches and vrouters

The above is a simple introduction to the differences between vswitches and vrouters. Let's take a look at the network, what are the differences between vswitches and vrouters:

Differences between vswitches and vrouters

A computer network is often composed of many different types of network connections. If several computer networks are physically connected together and cannot communicate with each other, then this "interconnection" is meaningless. Therefore, when talking about "interconnection", it is suggested that these computers can communicate with each other. That is to say, in terms of functions and logic, these computer networks have formed a large computer network, or an interconnected network, or Internet.

Some intermediate devices (or intermediate systems) are used to connect networks. ISO is called relay Systems. Based on the level of the relay system, there can be the following five relay systems:

(Layer 1) repeater (Physical Layer ).

Data link layer (Layer 2, layer L2), that is, a bridge or bridge ).

Router) the network layer (Layer 3, layer L3) relay system, that is, the router ).

A mixture of bridges and routers. The router has the functions of bridges and routers.

A relay system above the network layer, that is, a gateway ).

When the relay system is a forwarder, it is generally not called network interconnection, because it only expands a network, and it is still a network. High-level gateways are rarely used due to their complexity. Therefore, network interconnection generally refers to the network in which vswitches and vrouters are interconnected.

In this way, you can think that a vswitch can connect multiple computers. computers connected to the vswitch can communicate with each other and form an internal LAN, however, network support is required to access the Internet. Therefore, one end of the vswitch must be connected to the vro. The vro can implement the switching function and dial-up to implement broadband connection and allocate bandwidth resources to vswitches, in this way, multiple computers can share the internet.

In summary, the router has both the routing function and the network relay system, and the switching function. In addition to the WAN port, the other four ports are equivalent to the switching port, the router is used for WAN-WAN connection, can solve the forwarding group between the opposite sex network, acting on the network layer; and the switch is generally used for LAN-WAN connection, the switch belongs to the bridge, is the data link layer equipment, some switches can also implement layer-3 switching. Vro functions are better than vswitches, but the price is relatively high and the speed is not fast.

The above section only describes the differences between some commonly used vswitches and vrouters. For some high-end enterprise products, especially layer-3 vswitches and vrouters, the features are much better than those described above.
