As for the performance, to be honest, thin driver is slower than OCI on 8i, and it feels faster. However, I am afraid to make a conclusion even if I have not tested it accurately. Why? There are overhead for calling local methods, and JDK performance is getting better and better. The performance of local methods is at a discount against the call overhead. In addition, Oracle 8i itself is implemented in Java and supports Java well. The reason may be that thin driver is not slow but fast.
