Types of Router memory

There are three types of memory for routers: RAM (Random access Memory), NVRAM (non-volatile Random access Memory), and EEPROM (Electronic erasable Random Access Memory, also known as Flash.

The role of router memory

Flash: The operating system of the storage router (ios:internet operating system).

NVRAM: Stores the user's configuration table for the router.

RAM: When the router is power on, the configuration table is transferred from the NVRAM into RAM and controls the activity of the router, and the router routing table and data buffer are stored.

The difference between NVRAM and RAM

User changes to the router configuration are made in RAM

After the user stores the configuration table, Ram places a copy of the configuration table in the NVRAM

When the router loses power, the contents of the RAM will be lost and the contents of the NVRAM will be retained.
