What happens when a notebook touchpad fails?

Ever tried to use a Windows PC without a mouse, touchpad, or other fixed-point device? It's almost impossible. As a result, users are in trouble when the notebook's touchpad does not respond to the finger movements.

If the touchpad has just failed, the user can restart the computer to see if the problem can be repaired. It's a really easy thing to do, but sometimes we just turn a blind eye to such an easy measure. If restarting the computer does not work, try the steps below.

First, make sure that the touchpad is not accidentally closed. Multiple key combinations may turn the touchpad on or off. Typically, the touchpad is turned on and off and is related to pressing the FN key (usually at the lower left corner of the keyboard) while pressing the other key.

What other keys might be pressed to cause the touchpad to be turned off? Although it may be a different key, it is most likely one of the function keys (F1-F12). View the keyboard, paying particular attention to small icons (usually blue) on some function keys. Note the icon that represents the status of the touchpad.

Unfortunately, not all of the notebook's touchpad icons can be easily detected. The author has never found the icon of touchpad status in Lenovo ThinkPad X220 notebook, or found an icon representing touchpad status after searching the Internet.

If the touchpad failure problem has not been resolved, the user can view the Touchpad settings. Users can enter "Mouse settings" (mouse setting) in the Start button or WINDOWS8 search charm, and select Change mouse settings (changing the mouse setting). Other options are very similar to this option, please be aware of the selection.

When you enter the dialog box, select the label that represents the touchpad (different notebook's touchpad label name differs) to ensure that each of these options is turned on.

If the problem is not resolved, the user may need to download a new driver. Visit the notebook manufacturer's website, search for the corresponding notebook model of the touchpad driver, and then download, install.

After the above steps, if the notebook touchpad can not be used properly, that is the hardware problem. At this point, the ability to do not strong users only have two options: The notebook to the repair shop repair, or buy a small wireless mouse to replace the touchpad.
