Every Windows user wants Windows to start faster and better. However, if you want to make Windows Start faster, you need to master some unique tips to accelerate Windows Startup!

1. Disk IDE channels that cannot be ignored

In Windows XP, there is a setting that greatly affects the startup speed, that is, the disk IDE channel. Generally, Windows XP users do not need to install the IDE driver or patch on the motherboard, And the ultra dma function is enabled. Because of this, the vast majority of users will make the IDE channel in the automatic state, but this will cause Windows XP boot to slow down-because the motherboard can connect to four IDE devices, but most computers only have two IDE devices, hard Disk and optical drive. A few people may have a single hard disk, dual-Drive drive (DVD and recorder), dual-drive, single-drive, even if there are only three IDE devices, so generally there are 1 ~ Two IDE channels are idle. In this case, you should set an existing IDE device to "NONE" instead of "Automatic Detection ".

Tip: to set the IDE channel, click Start> control panel, double-click system, switch to the hardware tab, and click Device Manager ", double-click "ide ata/ATAPI controller ". Double-click "Main IDE channel" or "secondary IDE channel" below ". The "device type" under "device 0" is not optional, indicating that the IDE channel is currently in use. "Device type" under "device 1" is optional. If you do not add new IDE devices in the near future, you can set "device type" to "NONE ".

2. Disable the service and enable the Power User

Windows 2000/XP is slower than Windows 9x/Me. Many services are one of the important factors. Therefore, common users disable useless services, it also helps with the startup speed:

Alerter (users are not on the LAN and do not need to manage alerts)

Clipbook (users do not need to view the clipboard page of the remote clipboard)

Distributed link tracking client (users do not use NTFS partitions and are not connected to the LAN)

Distributed transaction coordinator (no need to process multiple databases or file systems at the same time)

Fax service (no need to send or receive faxes)

Ftp publishing service (your computer is not used as an FTP server)

Iis admin service (your computer is not used as a Web server)

In addition, it is recommended that you create a Power User to log on to Windows 2000/XP at ordinary times, because the User can start services less and more securely than the administrator.

3. promptly clear log files

Windows 2000/XP Log Files are easily ignored by users. In fact, every time we switch on or off the machine, run the program, or report an error to the system, this information will be recorded and stored in the log file. However, log files will increase over time, which affects the system startup speed. You can specify the log file size and processing method:

Choose Start> Settings> Control Panel> management tools, double-click event viewer, click Start> run, and enter eventvwr. msc and press enter to open the Event Viewer. You can see application logs, security logs, and system logs in the right window. Right-click any type of log and select "properties". Then, you can set the maximum value for the log file in the dialog box, you can also select the processing method after the log is full on the current day. In general, you can enable it to automatically overwrite the old log a period ago, so that the log file will never exceed the specified size. Click the Filter tab to specify the event type to be written to the log file.

Set the "System Log" attribute

4. Speeding up Windows 2000 startup

Compared with Windows 2000, Windows XP has been optimized and improved in many aspects, so the startup speed is faster. Can Windows 2000 enjoy the same benefits? In fact, you only need to find the corresponding language version file for Windows XP, and then replace the corresponding file for Windows 2000. These two files are NTLDR and NTDETECT. COM, all of which are in the root directory of the system partition. To prevent Windows 2000 errors, we recommend that you back up the original files of the same name in Windows 2000 before replacing these two files.

5. Let the blue scroll bar scroll only one circle

This is a secret for Windows XP. Open Registry Editor, expand [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementPrefetchParameters] branch, double-click the DWORD Value "EnablePrefetcher" in the right window, and change its value from "3" to "1 ". Exit Registry Editor and restart your computer. You will find that the scroll time of the blue scroll bar is significantly reduced when you enter Windows XP!
