In Windows XP SP3, the way to turn off DEP is:
Edit C:\boot.ini, you will probably see the following

[boot loader]timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

To turn off DEP, change the/noexecute=optin to/excute and restart the system.

Windows 7
Windows7 is not protected by the boot. INI, you need to enter bcdedit on the command line, if the last item of the output is observed as
NX 1
Indicates that DEP protection is turned on, and the level is 1
Only need to run

bcdedit /set nx alwaysoff

You can then restart the system.
