- Overview
- Document description
This document is a file server Upgrade & cross-forest migration implementation that contains basic information about the domain and replication group creation and file server migrations.
- Information collection
- Information collection
There are new domains inside the environment (for example, xyz.com in the documentation) and old domain controls (for example, abc.com in the documentation), two domains, users and computers in the new domain are users and computers that have migrated through the ADMT migration Tool for the old domain, and an operating system in the old domain for Windows Server 2003 file server with data of 300G.
Legacy domain server operating system for Windows Server 2003
New domain control server operating system for Windows Server R2
Migration of users and computers from the old domain to the new domain has been completed
New and old domain control has established two-way trust relationship
- Project objectives
- Migrating a file server to a new domain
- upgrade the file server operating system to Windows Server
- Environment preparation
- a single Windows Server server and join to the old domain, install the DFS role and confirm that the replication group was checked, as a new file server, on the old file server ( Windows Server 2003 Install the Distributed File System component and confirm that the File Replication group service is checked.
- legacy File server operating system version requirements Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
- a single Windows Server R2 Server as the migration server, install the ADMT migrate tools and join abc.com Domain
- Complete backup of the file server before you migrate

After restarting the DFS Replication service on the server, replication automatically starts, waits for replication to complete, and during the copy process, the report can be used to view the completion of the replication, and the replication cycle may be longer if there are files in use that automatically skip the file copy during the file copy process. After replication is complete, migrate the file server
