Windows 10 System native supports MKV format video playback

At present, the video file format is very much, but the Windows system natively supported video file format is limited, need to install a variety of players, decoders. Now, Windows 10 can already natively support video playback in the MKV package format.

If you open a video file with Windows Media player with a suffix named mkv in the Windows 10 Technology Preview, the player will still prompt you not to recognize the extension, but you can play the video smoothly if you ignore the hint. In previous versions of Windows, it was not possible to play MKV video files after they were ignored.

MKV: MKV is not a video coding format, accurate packaging format, like a container, can accommodate a variety of video, audio coding, so native support MKV means to natively support a variety of audio and video formats, difficult. Some analysts say this may be the reason why Windows 10 Technology Preview is not fully open to this feature.

Note: MKV files generally do not have subtitles, when you need subtitles to see the film to find the subtitle file and run the subtitle software.
