Windows 7 and Vista disable Program Compatibility Assistant

When we are configuring a workstation or using a local computer, it is easier to turn it off to save time.

Tip: It is helpful for novice users to find the PCA monitoring program for compatible projects. This tip is for advanced users and computer administrators.

Close the Program Compatibility Assistant on the local computer

You may want to turn it off on your local computer. For example, debugging software and setting up different situations for our articles, shutting down this assistant can save a lot of time.

Tap Start, and then enter services.msc in the search box and return.

Now scroll through the scroll bar to find the Program Compatibility Assistant service (Application Compatibility Assistant) and click to stop it.

You will get the picture on the screen below. If you want to turn on the feature, just repeat the steps above.

If you are a multiuser login, you want to disable it completely.

To disable the Program Compatibility Assistant in local Group Policy

Enter Gpedit.msc in the search box and return.

Next, locate the user Configuration (user settings) \administrative templates (Administrative Templates) \ Windows Components (windows-based components) \application compatibility (program compatibility). For illustration, double-click the Close Program Compatibility Assistant

Click Disable and then close the Group Policy panel after applying.

Again, we do not recommend that home users disable PCA because this can make the system unstable. Then, as an advanced user and administrator, the shutdown of PCA can save time and avoid annoyance.
