Introduced

The Windows Management Framework 4.0 installation package is now supported for downloading and installing. WMF4.0 allows you to leverage management techniques in Windows8.1 and Windows Server R2 in many older versions of Microsoft's operating system. The official version contains a lot of improvements compared to the previous preview, and before the customer installs and uses it, make sure to read this article carefully, especially WMF4.0 is incompatible with some of the older Windows server products.

The Windows Management Framework 4.0 Preview was released this July, when we were very excited to discuss its place in the community, and now it's only going to get better.

WMF4.0 can be installed on Windows 7 sp1,windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows CE7. Note that WMF4.0 cannot be installed on Windows 8, but you can get a free update for Windows 8.1 with Windows Update, which contains WMF4.0. For WMF4.0, NET4.5 is an additional prerequisite, make sure that your machine is already installed before you install WMF4.0. NET4.5, otherwise the meeting silently shows the installation failed.

The WMF 4.0 contains an updated version of the following features:

To use this updated management infrastructure to manage Windows 7 sp1,windows ce7,windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, and Windows Server 2012,WMF4.O must be installed in a previously published operating system.

Together with each operating System package, we provide a set of release notes and some additional DSC quick references. They contain a number of useful information, such as known issues, their workarounds, and some compatibility issues with other applications. So encourage everyone to download and read.

After installing WMF4.0, update the operating system, for example, upgrade from Windows7 to WINDOWS8, or upgrade from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2012 R2. These upgraded scenarios may encounter a number of known issues that have been documented in the release notes. Before you upgrade your operating system, be sure to read the upgrade release notes and prepare to perform some additional steps, or uninstall WMF4.0.

The same WMF4.0 does not support upgrading from the previous release of the preview to the current version, if your machine already contains a preview version, please uninstall and reinstall the WMF4.0 official version.

Note: Not all Microsoft server applications are currently compatible with WMF4.0. So before you install WMF4.0, be sure to read the WMF4.0 version description. Specifically, the following server application is temporarily incompatible with WMF4.0.
