Due to compatibility issues between XRDP, GNOME and unity, the XRDP landing on GNOME or Unity's remote Desktop is still not available in Ubuntu 14.04, with the phenomenon that only black-and-white points are background and no icons can be manipulated after logging in. As with resolution 13.10, you can only log in to Xfce Remote Desktop using XRDP.
First install Xfce:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install Xfce4
If the network speed is slow, this will last for some time.
Then install the XRDP component and the VNC server:
sudo apt-get install xrdp vnc4server
Once installed, create a new profile on your own, allowing you to log in using Xfce as the interface by default in remote login and restart the XRDP service:
echo "Xfce4-session" >~/.xsession
sudo service xrdp restart
This is equivalent to creating a new hidden file named. xsession in the current user's home directory and writing a line of xfce4-session to the file. You can also use touch to create a new file and edit it with VI:
Touch ~/.xsession
VI ~/.xsession
Now that the installation and configuration work is complete, you can use the Remote Desktop Connection program in Windows to connect to the Ubuntu host. You can also connect via any other terminal that supports the RDP protocol, such as Microsoft's Official Rd client on the iOS platform.
