Many of the files on the Windows XP installation CD are rarely used or even never used, but they occupy a certain amount of disk space. Through the method described in this article, we can produce a more than the original CD-ROM less than 100 megabytes of Windows XP installation disk, using this 100 trillion space, we can add a lot of utilities to make Windows XP installation disk more powerful features! Below, we take Windows XP Pro as an example and make the operating platform for the installed Windows XP Pro.
Step 1th Prepare the required software
Windows XP Pro installation CD-ROM, Winhex (a very good 16 edit and disk editing software), CDimage (Microsoft produced a CD-ROM image (ISO) file of the gadget), Bbie (a CD-ROM to obtain the boot file of the small software, Download Address: http://public.www.planetmirror.om/pub/nu2files/bbie10.zip).
Step 2nd get the files you need to install
First place the Windows XP Pro installation CD in the CD drive, and then in the Windows Run dialog box, enter the path to the Windows XP Pro Installer and then install the installation parameter "/noreboot" for installation, i.e. "X:\Setup.exe/ Noreboot ", where x is the disk letter of the installation CD. It is important to note that the selected installation type must be a "new Installation". In addition, when installing to select the installation option, you should click the Advanced Options button in the window, enter the custom Windows XP Options window, and select the check box before copying all installation files from the Install CD option, as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1 Setting installation options
Because the/noreboot installation parameter is used, Setup automatically returns to the desktop after the file copy is complete. At this point, you can find two folders named $WIN_NT$.~BT and $win_nt$.~ls in the system root directory.
Step 3rd to adjust the files required for installation
In the system root directory, rename the $win_nt$.~ls folder to install, rename the $win_nt$.~bt folder to boot (uppercase), and move the folder to the Install folder. Now go to the Install folder, delete the Size.sif file, go to the boot folder, and delete the two files Migrate.inf and Winnt.sif. Of course, in order to implement the unattended installation of Windows XP, we can also use our own Winnt.sif file to replace the original file.
If you want the installation CD to be created with the "Press any key to boot from CD" Prompt, we can copy the Bootfix.bin file from the original CD I386 folder to the boot folder. Finally, the original installation of the CD spnotes, WIN51, Win51ip, Win51ip. SP1 these several files to the install folder.
